SXR removing rail caps

Has any one taken off the rail caps and just put turf over it without composite side rails?? Looking to get rid of the stock rail caps but need some ideas on how to turf over.

please show some pics!!

No one?? so everyone with an sxr has rail caps?

I have done two but I don't have pic's I will try to get you some, it's pretty easy and you cut off a lot of weight just make sure you epoxy all of the holes in and grind down all of the sharp edges and corner's too on the front to make it easier to lay down the turf and make sure you rough up the glass and paint with 40 grit paper so the glue grips good.

I just stripped my turf and removed my rail caps last night. i will post some pics for you when i get finished the turf, should be this weekend. You will save alot of money doing it this way, cheapest and best rail caps i could fine were jettrims, and they were $215 each plus shipping. with turf it may run you $100 for 2 rolls of turf.

I was looking at the ones from blowsion for 200 plus 125 to paint plus 60 for side turf so yeah some pics would be great...looking to save some money. Did you guys fill in any of the spots with padding to level it out?

No I just turf right over the hull and it fills in perfect with where the rails went and I took black silicone sealer to fill in the gap for a smooth finish between the turf and hull.

in my experience the jet trim rail caps are a much better product than the blowsion rail caps. They have better fit and finish. The blowsion caps I ordered didn't fit at all and did not install them.

I like the look of the rail caps but it's personal preference. You can glue turf straight to the hull or put some underpaid down first to get a little better shape out of it.

Make sure you arent getting the "special priced" caps from Jettrim, I received those first and they didnt fit at all and were too small to cover the contours of the hull where it should be....

But... I called him and he was more than willing to make it right and sent me the "good caps" for no extra charge... Make sure you specify

I would like to have this done on my 2004 SXR. I have no experinece putting in new turf or doing fiberglass work. Can anyone recommend someone in the Northern NJ/ Southern NY area that could do this work for me for a fee. I live in Warwick (Orange County) New York. Thanks
Eric.
