Personally I chose money. As I would like to and am working towards a ski I can compete on! Gotta get the skills up to of course but that will happen in time.

Money is a big thing, But WHO wants to sit around all day on the weekend just to go out for a 2 min run, How Gay
If your a racer it's cool to compete, cause you can run more classes then just one,

I do like freestyle type riding (FREERIDE) I just think freestyle comp's are a waste of time,

Your not going to get better sitting on the beach on the weekend waiting for your 2 min run!!!!

B/c I work on the weekends so any event I go to will require vacation time. I am going to give it a shot next year..........maybe 1 event and nationals just to say I did it.

I think everyone should try as much as they can, just to see what its like and have respect for others as well

 worst it can do is give you a better feel for the sport!
just grow some balls and try it all :wizard: <---- at least u know that wont happen to u :haha:
trying new things can never hurt, i practice a lil runabout once in a while i wont lie :cool2:

#1 is my biggest problem..... carbon hulls are not cheap.:banghead:

#2 is changing quite rapidly with every passing day.:woot:

I would be willing to enter a freestyle contest as soon as my bigbore gets together. I know I will probably finish last, but like Waste Land said, you will progress faster, and have some experience under your belt. I think a group of us should all show up at a event, and have a lil fun!

Competitions are great, when they’re at their peak!

However, the downside for me it’s usually a 6-700 mile drive for that weekend (…they don’t like to have races around Chicago for some reason) + $100 for 2, 2 min. routines to compete against myself (all have bailed for those reasons stated). Just look @ the APBA files none or one f.s. rider/per region at each event!

I forgot to include the luxury of a hotel + food, if you got the $, I sleep in my coffin=) (lid down). The attendance is sad, but understandable.

Tooo Old!!!!!!! You didn't include that on your poll!!:cool2: :crutches:

and I could use some more skills

Also, I would like a new class to be created: Amateur freestyle veteran class!! We will require to have folding chairs set up right next to our skis before competitions along with a cooler full of CL's (new rules to be integrated in the ijsba/apba rule books):trink26: :deal:

You do not need a carbon hull, you do not need mad skills...........you do need some entry fee, but find some sponsors, you would be suprised.........

but what you really need is heart and desire.......... not to win, to just go out there and have fun, act a fool, push the limit, who cares how you finish.....

I second that BK!
For everyone that said because "lack of skills". My first competition was in 2002. I started freestyling on a 650sx without handholds or footholds. All I could do was bulldog the ski around, fountain, hood 360's, tailstands, and dive over the ski and come up the back. I made a routine and repeated the tricks I could do in different variations. I've gotten more last place and next to last place finishes than anyone I know.

My point is this.........You should be competing because you love to freestyle and ride. Don't get me wrong, who doesn't like to win.....but I know I sure didn't start out competing for the reason of whether or not I thought I could win. I just love being in the atmosphere of it all with the other riders, sick skis, announcing, peeps cheering you on, and the high fives when you’re done. It's all fun to me. I believe when you do it for the love of it, you get more out of it and enjoy yourself more.
Not to mention......I think it pushes you more to progress in your riding ability.

Come on guys........lets get some record breaking number of freestylers out there competing next season!:cheer: :arms: :Banane01: :arms: :cheer:

I remember a few years ago........... 2004 Rounds 3 & 4, I met a young Kid who was gonna race for his first time, they live less than an hour from the race site so they decided to give it a shot........... So, he signed up for Beginner Stock and also AM Freestyle (His parents wanted him to race, not freestyle - if my memory is serving me correctly)......... We asked him what all he had done to his skis (Had 2 SJ's there)....... "Oh, they are both stock, we got Ride plates and intake grates on them.........." looked over at them, Shonuff, Bone Stockers, both of them............. comes time to run the qualifier......... we are out there practicing, getting warmed up........ up comes this guy on his Octane with a really swollen Jaw............ We were all like, dude, what happend "I was trying a big throw and the ski hit me in the Jaw!!!!!!!" This guy use to go by "Sweeneybird" ( I will let you all figure out who he is), any how, we all do our routines........... I stunk, sunk my ski in the qualifier......... Randy Richardson was out there cranking Rolls, only one of us that could do them at the time (on his Wammer Hull), Jammin Jeff Lutker amazes the crowd with a trick called the Rodio.....(I think this guy is the last person in the world that can still pull it off!!!!!!!- super nice guy, been racing with him since 2000, have watched his kids grow up, one is racing the Juniors Class) on his SJ that Malone won the 2000 WF's on......... Some guy named Wildwood went.......... Think he is still trying to nose stab!!!!!!!!!! ;) Then comes this kid............. He went out there and had a blast..........but man, that kid could not do a nose stab to save his life!!!!!!! forget about even trying a barrell Roll, but man did he kick out the sickest flat water superman I ever saw, and landed with his chest smacking the tray........... I think we all had the wind knocked out of us just watching....... Did I mention this guy did not have footholds or staps.......Nothing.......... think he even had stock bars on there still, maybe some aftermarket grips............ I dont remember how we finished, think I may have gotten 3rd or 4th that day............... Believe Randy got 1st... Wildwood or Lutker got 2nd.......... fast forward a few weeks, we end up in South Carolina at some Lake, more like a Pond, Lake is stretching it!!!!!! Same competitors...... and this kid shows up again......... goes out there, does the same silly tricks, even goes really big on the Superman....... We all had the wind knocked out again, man, that had to hurt.......... Think that kid made the front page of the local paper.......... Did I mention that he was on a stock ski.......... stock Hood, Pole, zero mods to the motor, stock pipe........... I mean stock..............not even a scupper, wonder if he had a bilge pump??? he showed up at most of the rest of the races that season on the same stock ski.................. Sometimes I wonder what ever happened to that kid..................

:sneaky: :sneaky: :sneaky:

So, what is the point of this................................ you dont need all the lowered hoods, TLR, Team Scream, LPW/FU Ported cylinders, the Famed Factory B Pipes or Speedwerx Pipes, "D" Cut Ride Plates...... Trim Flippy Systems (Cats for all us broke FU'rs - I still dont have one) XMetal Pole and Bars (Oh, dont install XMetal Bars 2 days before the 2004 APBA Nationals and expect to leapfrog up on the hood for a 180 hood spin and expect everyting to work the same........ It doesnt, the bars are closer to your legs now, causing you to not be able to grab the throttle........... and especially dont keep trying this trick over and over like Someone I know........... yes me.......:banghead: :banghead: ) Just get out there and give it a try...... what do you have to loose? where may it take you?

615 Freeriders are addicted to T1 madness.
I want the biggest reason why you don't compete in freestyle.... seriously, why???? one reason and no blabing on about crap... just state the one main reason why you don't do it... I really don't mean this as a negative thing at all, I'm just trying to understand something...

my main reason
I don't have money to travel, or buy high dollar parts...

:haha: so much for that & cuz I suck

Money. I was fortunate enough to meet some VERY nice people this year, that by fate allowed me to compete at the Mrytle Beach Race (thank you Rattis for everything, Pancaker, Paul Lehr, and Jeff Lutker for skis, and Surf and Turf!)

But for me and my college budget, my traveling is Very Limited- so I can not make many of the events due to gas costs this summer, and entry fees.

I would LOVE to compete more, just wasnt in the budget :(
