Other 61x/61x Superjet questions

I have a 94 701cc Superjet with the 61x cases and 61x top end. The skies power band seems to kick in hard in the mid range. Is this b/c of the 61X case? My ski has a milled head(180psi), lightened flywheel, and i'm running a Solas 14/17 right now. I have a Solas 13/17 concord re-pitched to 12/17 I will be putting on in the spring along with a b-pipe (limited chamber). Will a well tuned b-pipe make a smoother power band? I'm really looking to get a smooth power band that hits hard all the way through.

I had a very similar set up to you in my last SN. I had a 61x/61x, ada head at 175-180 area, lightened flywheel (which is worthless imo), a b pipe, solas 14.5/18, but I was also running a blackjack 48. I would say it had a good powerband all the way through, it did hit hard on the bottom end, but not hard enough for me, ive since scrapped all that and have started fresh with a whole new build. I think you will be pretty happy once you get a bpipe on there if you're wanting a good powerband all the way through. Mine had a little too much top end for me, I couldnt hang on to it with the throttle pegged for more than 3-5 seconds, it would get way too squirlly.

Yeah the ski is very squirlly at WOT! Right now as my ski sits it's like a light switch comes on just pass half throttle. My mid to top is killer and very snappy, I just want the same out of my bottom end. Don't get me wrong I can pin the throttle form idle and the ski will take off like a bat out hell but it just doesn't have the "snap" in the low end like it does in the mid to top. I'm hoping that 12/17 and a well tuned b-pipe will give it more snap and response in the bottom end along with a smooth power band.

Hopefully the impeller will give you what you are looking for, what carb set up are you running? Maybe you could even try a FCV to dry out your waterbox a little, some say they dont work, but the guys that know how to set them up swear by them.

I have been reading up on the X and some people with 61x/61x SN Superjets seem to have the same problem with their skis being very snappy mid to top. Even people with a limited modded ski (pipe, head, impeller ect...) have the same problem. I was wondering what would cause this? It seems to be only people with the 61x/61x that have this problem, which make me think it has something to do with the cases? or just a poorly tuned ski?

A b pipe, 12/17 big hub mag, and a flow control will wake it right up. Dry the hell out of the flow control and it will help you on the low end. I have mine letting water in wayyyyy late in the Rpms and it doesn't cook my hoses at all. If you set it up real wet like some of the guys who claim it's useless, then they are right---it won't do a damn thing.

Alot of your problem might be the cases, most run the 62t for a reason, my fx-1 im building now will have them, and ive ridden a few others skis that had the 62t/61x setup and they hit much harder than mine did. Also if your budget allows you to, consider sending your carb to blackjack performance, this will give you more of that bottom end you want. I think once you get the bpipe you will be happier, I went from a riva dry pipe to the bpipe and it was a hell of a difference on the bottom end but still not quite what I wanted. I would just get the pipe and see how you like it, then maybe next winter pick up a set of 62t cases and another carb and go that route, none of it will be a waste. If you really want some bottom end snap look into a total loss system. If you shop around you can pick up a whole setup for less than a msd enhancer and lightened flywheel, which both IMO are a waste besides being able to adjust the rev limiter on the enhancer.

The one thing that might be weird too is the stock pipe makes the smoothest power delivery than any other pipe.

It is less peaky and doesn't have a spot where the motor makes a ton of power compared to others.

The B pipe will have a "pipey" spot where the motor makes a bunch of power then signs off or falls flat. It has to do with water screw tuning and where you want the motor to make power for your application.

My thoughts are to add a b-pipe tune it for low end "pop" and hope my mid to top "snap" doesn't change. Is that possible? I have never messed around with tuning a b-pipe So i'm wondering how will it effect my mid to top to if it is tuned for bottom end "snap"? Will it stay the same? Will it sign off or fall flat? I just wanna boost the pop and response in the low end and leave the rest alone.

put the b pipe on and open the top screw only. It will have tons of bottom end but fall flat up top. It will still go fast but it will run out of that "pull" feeling up top.

If you have never done it before I would suggest finding someone who has done it before to help you tune, or pay someone. It will be the best money you ever spent.

I'm not worried about tuning the pipe, I will spend all summer messing with the thing tell I get it dialed in. I just spent all summer tuning the carb, got it dialed in spot on then f up my knee ridding the thing LOL. It took 32 stitches to sow it back together and almost 3 months to heal.........It sucked. But, just setting up the carb right made a huge difference. All my riding buddies thought I added some AM part.
But, back to the b-pipe I just wanna know how the pipe changes the power band. Will add to it? Will it change the whole thing? Will it just put the "snap" where you want it and kill the rest? Will my mid to top stay the same?

There is no way to get perfectly smooth throttling with a tuned pipe, they are either on or off. A stock Superjet exhaust has no tuning and gives linear power delivery although less of it compared to a pipe. Try a stock exhaust and see if it makes enough power for you.

Exactly what I was trying to say but worded way better.

I have the stock exhaust on right now and I totally disagree with that. Just past half throttle the power band is insanely strong. The power band is smooth until you hit that sweet spot (around half throttle) then it hauls ass. I would say most of the power band is in the mid to top, it seems to really hit like bricks in that part of the power band.
Lots of people with SN seem to have this problem. Stock exhaust or not.
