What the best route coming off I 40 to miss the La crap?

Looks like you guys will probably want to take the same route from Barstow as we are.

58 through the Tehachapi Pass, through Bakersfield and north on I-5 to Hwy 46 (Kettleman City) - then west on 46 to Paso Robles, then go south on Hwy 101 through San Luis Obispo.

If I were coming from that direction, yes......it's a little backtracking on paper, but I assure you, outside of having to behave yourself across 46 from Chalome to Paso Robles, you can pretty much haul asss and not have to worry about towing.

I always drag along a handful of two-way radios..makes for cheap entertainment on long road trips........

This one time (at band camp), there was about 30 of us headed to Isla Morada, FL for a ride over new Years.....we accidentally intercepted some old guy's wife calling him about lunch while he was out fishing...she wanted to know what she should have ready for him when he came in.

Of course my buddy who does great impersonations picked up and told her he wanted a raw squid with Miracle Whip sandwich...and it had better be fresh!

I almost shat myself laughing when she bought it hook, line and sinker.

I can only imagine what you could do with truckers coming through Bakersfield
