you know the definition of insanity right?

"Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

I'm probably a bit crazy, but I don't expect anything different to happen. It's still going to be an X2, it's still going to be a Kawi, and I'm probably still going to be leaving it on the trailer as I ride my SJ. Never-the-less, I'm not getting rid of my X2, so I might as well do a few things I have been wanting to do. The reason to start over on a new hull is because I can continue to ride my X2 while I work on this one. It's not going to be quick.

My problem is the other way around. I keep building all these other skis but I keep leaving them on the trailer to ride my old X2.

I gen1 X2 with a well build motor is the best ski to ever hit the water.

Please comment if you have any thoughts about the shape/style of the ski.

I probably spent a hour today just staring at the ski trying to decide how to shape each side and which I liked better. In the end, I decided on the left side. I will probably stare at the thing a bit more before I make my final decision. I started adding filler to the front parts of the ski since I already know how that will work.

More shaping of the right side

Got more foam today

Shaped the left side

Soon comes the daunting task fo making it symetric.

This morning I worked a final foam shape of the left side. I started adding filler. I'm not using bondo, as a filler I am using... 4oz poly resin, 1cc of hardner, and a 50/50 mix of cab-o-sil/glass microspheres. The reason is that I already have some very old poly resin that needs to be used, so this mix is cheaper than bondo by a few $ per quart. I need to let this dry and get more supplies before I continue.

I haven't messed with the right side since I decided I like the left side better.

Yesterday I bought myself a DA. I borrowed a 4hp compressor, rocked that DA for about 5 mins, then the belt on the compressor broke !*@&!*@&. Now I have to fine a replacement belt for a 20 yo compressor...

On the bright side, everywhere around here sells bondo for $11 a pound, but I found that harbor freight sells 7lb containers for $20. That will help.

just say no to bondo!

Why? I haven't used it yet. I could return it. I have been pretty happy with the glass spheres/cab-o-sil mix but it costs much more than Bondo.

As a side note, I found a belt for my new compressor (traded my old craftsman 1hp 10gal for a old craftsman 4hp 30gal) and got a little done with the DA.

I keep getting slowed down by my compressor being lame. It can easily run my air tools, but it keeps throwing the belt. The screw that is suppose to hold the pully wont do its job, so the pully moves, and the belt comes off. I tried making a spacer and such, but it's not working out. Hopefully the JB weld I put on the pully tonight will solve all my problems.

Anyway, here's the last few days of work. Bondo, sand, put belt back on, sand, put belt back on, sand, bondo, sand, bondo, sand, put the belt back on... lol =\

Edit: Please comment! I am unsure on the shapes. I like the front and it is not changing. However, I am unsure on the bondrail. I was thinking of cutting the bond rail off the nose for cosmetics, but don't really want to cut it off (and loose the bumper, etc) from a functional/durability stand point. Also pretty undecided on the area that is behind the end of the origional hood. Any opinions? Like it the way it is? How would you do it different?

To tell you the truth I think if you rounded all the edges on the hood a little bit, including edges around the fill behind the hood you did, I think it would look very clean. Also I'm sure you know I'm a fan of shaving the front bond rail off so I would agree That, that would really finish the front off well. Just my 2 cents but I think so far it's defenetly going to be cool when your done!
