I have had problems with completing mine in the past, but if I remember to look left then right to spot my landings, it seems to help complete the last bit of the roll. Thanks for all the pointers on this thread, Lucaumpits summed it up for me, look for the roll underneath the ski

Is the hood itself cracked or just the paint?
Also, how heavy was the layup on that hood? (Mine weighed 8lbs)

Lye told me heavy surf layup after describing our type of riding, Tem said that would be bombproof, but so far Ed and I have cracked them in roughly the same place. It is very flat In that one spot, a few stress cracks down the side there also. It still feels like the integrity of the hood is still pretty good, but I would like to get it reinforced more, I don't care if my hood weighs a bunch I want one that will last. Apparently you other freak guys land way more tricks than us, we are still learning and are hard on our gear.

No, I pancake plenty of flips and land most of my rolls on the left side of the hull. I have paint spider-cracking there, but not on the hood, and no structural cracks.

dayum near broke my shoulder and feemer on a boat wake roll ATTEMPT this weekend bro. The carbon ROK hood wasnt fazed but I have a bruise the size of my hand on my upper thigh where it hit the hood. OUCH. Rolls are far more paintfull then any trick I have tried.

Well, a fruitfull weekend of attempts, but no completions yet. Made it past 3/4 a handfull of times, cracked my freaks' hood, same spot as Ed's hood crack. Still very strong but I'll have to talk to Tem about beefing mine up for next year. Broke the gopro mount off of my helmet early in the day or I'd have video of my attempts for critique. My weekend was ended when I broke 3 motor mounts after a barrel roll fail that amounted to a huge inverted stab from about 8 feet up off of a nice boat wake. I'm glad rhaas's urethane mounts have a great warranty, he already has things worked out for me. Great guy to deal with!

I don't get it! Backies get all the props, at least around here when it comes to applause from the back of boats but the consequences of failing a roll are so much worse! Most People just don't understand!

Damn straight. I can land them if I just get high enough, but they are wonky and I still somehow crash even if I land plate first.

Its amazing how hard it is to roll, But i feel like once we finally learn it we will be like wow were we retarded back then. At least once a week i have a huge bruise on the leg, hit my head/face, wrist feels like they are going to break.

Yeah why the wrist sometimes on the landings. Did a good plate to plate off a 4-5 ft wave landed it and collapsed almost broke my right wrist. Luckily its fine

I know it's been a while since this thread came up, but I'm getting a little winter crazy already, and was looking back through some of my favorite older threads, reminiscing. I am working on upping the arms race in pursuit of this lofty goal. I have hit the weights to try and get into better shape. I am drinking more to try and kill off more brain cells. I will hit a plate to plate roll next year. My ski is in the process of growing a bigger set of balls. Working on doing the same for myself.

Hit a four foot wave, crank the bars, chuck your head and most importantly: Pin it to win it!!!!! More throttle gives you more time to land the trick.

loosen up a bit... and don't hold on so tight.

exactly... and more speed also helps give you more forward momentum (as well as amplitude). More forward momentum helps keep you from 'dropping out of the sky' on a big amplitude roll, especially of peaky waves.

Like I told my buddy last year - don't try to overthink it... lead with your head and your ass will follow. my buddy would spend so much time analyzing it, and thinking through the mechanics of it, that it would actually cause him choke at different spots of his rotation. clear your mind.

I gave it one true balls out try this year after half ass trying many, many times. Unfortunately my balls finally matured spur of the moment while I was riding surf stance and not really kicked into my footholds. I hit the boat wake and flew high. I rotated just past 180 degrees and came out of my footholds. Then the ski kept rotating and caught my lower leg between the steering and the pole. It torqued on my leg and crunched so hard I just knew it was broken. I ended up with a huge sausage shaped swelling on my tibia that settled to my foot over the next week and to this day I have a weird coinroll shaped knot on my shin. I hope my balls grow back someday but I don't know.
