what port work can/should be done to a 61x case?

I've got a couple extra 61x cases sitting on the shelf that I want to try and port. I also have an 86mm ported 62t cyl I'd like to put on one of these cases so they need to flow well. what should be ported should? should anything be epoxied?

Porting cases is one of those things that will almost always make an improvement even if you are not a skilled porter (however you can easily screw up a motor with bad cyl porting). The epoxy is used in cases because of aggressive porting will poke holes while grinding. I have a bunch of 62T case porting/epoxy pictures but its a bit different.

My opinion is to think yourself as water and grind/smooth out anything that gets in your way or would slow your flow (follow case air-flow). Just don't go overboard and stick to the edges and corners.

someone already cleaned up these cases of casting marks. now I'm looking to remove some material. I've seen where people remove those circles about the size of a finger in the corners of the 63t cases. should I do something like that?

Also, what kind of epoxy to use?

Chuckie of Team Scream - I believe - has stated before it's a waste of time (paraphrasing).
I think the only "real porting" I've heard of was by Head Enterprises.

Sell both sets of 61X cases and buy a good set of 62T cases, you would be doing the right thing.

If you’re filling the tops of the cases I would use Devcon Aluminum Liquid and if you’re building ramps use the Aluminum Putty.

I still have two new one pound containers of the putty left over from doing my cases if you’re interested?

I've got a t case but I want to work on these x cases a little more.

I still haven't found out where to apply the epoxy yet.

what does devcon go for $$$?

When are we going to ride together? your not that far from me. maybe you can convert my case choice.

The Devcon putty and liquid sells for about $40 bucks. If you’re going to use the 61X cases I don’t think you would need the epoxy. The epoxy is used on the 62T cases to fill in the tops and to strengthen the ported areas on the intake side. A lot of people also fill in the fingers and build ramps in the 62T cases but the 61X cases don't have fingers. I would just clean up the casting marks on the sides and maybe make them a little wider as in the pictures of the previous thread listed.

Just shoot me a PM and we will go hit the surf some weekend.
