Super Jet bogging issue

Location

over the winter i added new reeds, dual stage and a flame arrester, now i have an issue with it bogging when i get past 3/8 to 1/2 throttle. It never cleans out just keeps boggin anywhere past this point with no power slows to the point where you almost cant stand unless you let off the gas and let the rpm's come up. Now im wondering if its the carb needing adjustment or if i should put the stock reeds back in. the ski is a 90 650 superjet thats totally stock other than the thinkgs i added this winter. any ideas or help would be great thanks brobb.

-Could water be getting to the flame arrestors? (i.e. hood)
-Issue with carbs?
-Fuel filter?
-Bad fuel? (i.e. sitting for too long)
-Dry carbs from a recent cleaning? (could cause it to bog down temporarily until enough fuel gets in them; happened to me once)

Just a few things that immediately came to mind. I don't know if the reeds would cause it to bog down like that.

i dont think it would be water or the fuel new gas at the start of the season. the carb was rebuilt but has been run 4 times on the lake just cant go fast cuz it bogs. ill check the fuel filter if it clogged up the ski wouldnt be getting enough gas for the high rpm's?

It could be a combinations of things. The fuel filter being bad would definitely contribute to bogging.

A friend of mine had the same problem you're having, and he found out that his hood seal was letting water in and he had no hoses on his hood, so water would trickle into the flame arrestors. But if you don't think that water is the problem, then my next guess would be the carbs. Maybe bad pop off.
Like I said, it could be a combination of things though. So I would just check all the easy stuff first that might cause bogging: Spark plugs, Ignition coil along with the boots, carbs, filter, etc.

I hope that helps at least a little.

try taking your ski out with the hood off, you might have developed an exhaust leak if the problem goes away with your hood off thats what your problem is 100%, I'm assuming you took your motor out to add the reeds so you might have a gear clamp loose on your exhaust.

Checked all the clamps nothing wrong there changed the popoff spring no change then put the stock reeds in problem fixed. Makes me wonder now hot the engine is doing if it didn't have enough to open the dual stage reeds should I look into a rebuild?

Good idea. Also take a close look at the waterbox - I have had one SN waterbox completely fail and blow the top off, and another that loosened up and leaked around the top elbow. Waiting on a/m aluminum replacement as we speak.

Does it do it only on the water? I cleared up a scary bog by checking my water separator. I'm about to install the one off my jammer in my SJ since it's a cup and not that oval translucent POS.

^^^I meant the one right before the carbs in the fuel circuit. I had a tiny bit in mine that I couldn't see because they aren't really the clearest things. Anyway my ski would do great in the warm up no wake zone and soon after, but once I started listing and rocking, only a tiny amount of water would get sucked up, and cause the ski to bog. I thought it was lean since it would clear up doing tail stands, but that just kept the water in the separator, making me think it was too lean. I found two drops of water in my rear carb about the size of a period on this page.

Bluffskier, you have a water separator on your fuel line to your carb???

I have a bog on the low end that I can't get rid of to save my life, so I was hoping to find some sort of magic fix here.
