Other Suggestions for getting started?

I've never ridden a stand up but I'm really thinking I could get hooked. Does anyone know where I could try one out/rent one in Eastern PA? Any suggestions on cheap and good skis if I like 'em?

Well you have couple options, if you want freestyle you should start out with a superjet, one that is already set up for that or if you want to do bouys/racing youll prolly want a SXR as they handle much better but heavier than the superjets. Maybe theres someone on here that lives around you that might let you try theres, your not going to find anywhere to rent them. That or you could buy a modded SN (95 and older superjet) for pretty cheap probably around $1500-$2500 depending how nice it is.

Maybe??

My buddy found these two skis for sale near his apartments. Can anyone help me with the details as to what they are and if they are a good first ski (given that they are in decent shape) Any idea as to what price I should even expect to pay?

skip those kawasakis in my opinion. Don't get so antsy to buy the first ones you see. First, find some way to try a stand-up to see if you even like it (superjet if possible, although an SX-R will be the most stable for a first ride). If you do get hooked after a quick test ride, then save up for a squarenose superjet at least, if not a roundnose superjet.

Just go to the dealer and buy a brand new one. I got a 2010 left over for $8000 out the door. Yamaha and Kawasaki are discontinuing the 2 strokers and IMO they will keep good value ahead of time.
Oh, be careful who you give it to :) specially heavy guys with no ability to stand up at all. I have never tried one before, bought it a week ago and have had a blast since then, besides the last day when my friend sunk it in the ocean :)..
