So I just got my sj built over the winter. First one I have had. Rode 650sx last summer and wow what a power increase. Well When I am hitting the boat wakes I am going much higher but seem to getting way to vertical and landing on my ass. Almost feels like I am going to start a back flip. I have foot holds and the pole is short two inchs plus lower pole bracket and shorter steering plate.

When I dont gas it as much It doesnt happen as much but I want to FLY high. Any hints or tips?

Thanks

I will give that a try. Seems kind of hard cause I am in the foot holds which puts me at the back of the ski.

I know I'm a very special case here and haven't met a single rider like myself but putting a foot forward or leaning forward doesn't work at all for me. In fact, it makes me less controlled and I have zero control of the ski in the air.

So basically I'm offering up this advice if the other recommendations don't work for you... What has worked for me is moving the footholds up and keeping the pole at stock length. I'm 6' tall with big monkey arms and chicken legs but my ski is practically set up for a midget. When I jump or ride, I have a very nuetral and upright riding position (no back pains with this setup either). I also ride 99% in the footholds because it's the most comfortable and I'm always ready to jump anything. This positioning allows me control of the back of the ski by pulling up as opposed to controlling the front of the ski by pushing down on a hinging point.

Regardless of how you do it, you have to manipulate the ski when it's in the air or at least gain better positioning prior to jumping. On a side note, I wish a bad jump left me landing on my butt... Usually feels like I landed on my nuts if I over rotate.

Are you Pre loading or double pumping ??? Riding surf you dont need to, but on boat wakes you can get alot more pop and it gets your tail up. If you have foot holds just pull up with your legs.

I forgot!
i am also one who locks into the footholds and rides. I do not like haveing one foot forward at all and i am in more control when i have both feet back. I moved my footholds forward and found that to help alot. the rest is just practice.

sorry but I have to mention your avatar is one foot forward. lol just found it funny. not stirring the pot.

I think having the pole shorter will also make you pull the nose sometimes in addition to standing in the rear of the tray.

I noticed both of these things. First D-Roc's avatar is a foot forward.

More importantly though... I noticed that a shorter pole hunches me forward but when I jump, I want to stand up which pulls the nose up and makes me go backwards.

Regardless of what you do in the air, you will still have that rotational energy. The jump is what must be controlled, It would seem you are pushing the tray down at the lip of the wake, try to push the tray down earlier and ride out the tip of the wake in the already loaded stance.

Going out today. Doubt there will be to many boat wakes but hopefully a few to try a few of these things.

Yeah maybe I will just pull harder and gas it more and just try to rotate it. :icon16: Thats what my face would look like. Just wanna jump them a bit better first.

Thanks

Lift you feet up when locked in the footholds. At the same time, push down on the pole. My problem is I always level the ski out and land flat.

I do get that on occasion and it hurts my wrists. The accidental sub from way over rotating feels pretty awesome too. The accidental sub usually has a poo-like side effect that goes with it. lol

Timming is everthing, if you time it right you just need relax your knees and back of the boat will come up and nose will pitch down. And to save the knees you can pull on the bars on landing. Flat landing hurt.
