Most of the posts in this thread were previously part of my Superfreak build thread.

Maybe not an exciting part of the build, but I just got the insurance portion taken care of.
Through Progressive, insured as 2011 Superfreak with modified motor, replacement value $16k.
Policy is $271/yr.

How is your ski titled? My BOB is a homebuilt and progressive wouldn't cover any replacement costs? More info please

Mine is titled as homebuilt (as that is the only way to title it) but I listed it as 2011 Superfreak.
I am getting receipts from Tem.

I specifically asked Progressive about this and they said no problem.

Will you have receipts adding up to the 16K or was that an agreed upon value? I'm lacking recepts for almost all of my stuff.

Hull - getting those from Tem.

Motor - going to get those from Jetworks, but I do have emails and bank statements corroborating those emails.

Other stuff, i.e. mag pump, TL = got paypal receipts.

Yes, exactly.
You select "Not listed", and then on the next page you can manually enter a manufacturer.

Sorry to clog up your build thread, but its relevant to custom builds. One thing I learned playing with the Progessive tool...if you type homemade in the "make" field it automatically does not allow you to quote any agreed value insurance (ie no comprehensive/collision). If you type "say superfreak or rickter" it will let you and the jetski is technically a mini-jet boat. But if its registered as homemade you might be screwed come the time you try to claim. I would like to hear from someone who actually tried to claim what happens though. Sounds like not so good...

But it's not like the state (or even federal government) gives you any other choice. The ONLY legal option to register virtually any aftermarket hull is to list it as "homebuilt", because the actual manufacturer doesn't issue a HIN.
But there is a real manufacturer with real receipts.

Dude I'm in the same "boat". I have no problem paying out the ass for agreed val coverage, but I want it to work if I ever need to claim. Only cool thing is that it does appear that you can legitimetly get liability coverage on the homemade hull via progressive. But I think its too big of a loophole for them to get out of when it comes time to file a theft or if someone crashes into your trailer. Looking into a few other things.

If I am not mistaken, Wamilton use to provide a HIN number with his hulls. I think he started around 94 or so.

Not sure if he still does this...........

In regards to car and boat insurance I don't worry about fixing the machine (yes, your SF is expensive) as much as those crazy, hairless apes that might get broken or killed. Just because it's not your fault doesn't mean some idiot pulling in front of you in a car or boat out of nowhere makes you innocent until proven guilty. If no one had insurance, you had assets and the other person doesn't what do you think would happen?

imho insurance finds ways to screw us everyday. I had a policy on my 84 Euro 323, with a 2.8 stroker and bbs rs003's. Car caught on fire, damage was minimal and easily fixed for under 3k. Car was valued at over 6k before the fire. My own insurance company told me my car was worth 1k. I fought it with legal counseling and found comparables to my car that where 5K and more. The insurance then averaged there 1k lowball with my 5k comparables and gave me like 3. My legal advice told me that most policy they write (including mine) are written with ways to screw people when it comes to paying. The :):):):)ty things about it was i had been rearended like 6 months before this, and the girls insurance company payed me 2 grand for a new bumper. Funny how other peoples insurance valued my car more then my own.

Insurance on your ski?

But of course!

Now that my ski is running, I've started poking around for rates.

I have insurance through USAA but they don't do PWC's directly. They transferred me to a rep from Progressive.

They want $360 a year for good coverage.

Policy coverages:

Bodily Injury: $250,000 person/$500,000 accident
Property Damage: $100,000 property damage
Uninsured/ Underinsured Boater: $100,000 person/$300,000 accident
Medical Payments: $7,500 each person

Does that seem crazy high to you for that kind of coverage? It works out to over a $1/day.

This is for a 1985 550 Kawi, without comprehensive.

I read through a couple of the older Insurance threads from last year and some people are paying like $113/year or $85/year.

I have no accidents and no tickets.

Most of you have ski's that are worth $6k or more and are paying less, lol. I don't get it.

Did insurance rates go up? What are you guys paying now for PWC insurance and what kind of coverage do you have?
