Super Jet Yep another SN problem

Well i just built my motor for the first time. Now with spring right around the corner I wanted to get the ski started to make sure everything is ready to go. Well this is my problem..

I hooked everything up and went to start the ski.

-First try it sparked at the pos terminal of the battery
-Second try it clicked by the starter. Very soft click
-Third time did the same as the second.
-From then on nothing.. not even a click.

-Contacted my buddy that has a SN and we started going through options. There is 12v going from the battery to the relay.
-There is 12v on the red wire to the switch. I tried jumping the red switch wire with the tan wire and nothing.
-Checked the grounds are they are good.
-Opened my ebox and jumped the pos battery wire with the starter wire and nothing..
-Negative wire that goes to the stator is grounded.
-I have the negative wire from the battery going to a bolt in the exhaust manifold that does ground the motor. (Touched the head with neg wire and pos to the battery with volt meter and it read)

I have searched around on the forum before I post to try to find something but I didn't get anything and my buddy is stuck also so I figured I would reach out to you all because there is a extensive range of knowledge on this site. I have a 92 SN with a 701 motor in it.
I did swap out the stator because the one I had broke where the screw bolts it to the case. Not sure if this would matter. I connected all the wires with the same colors so it should be connected correctly.

Any ideas??? I am trying to get this figured out before Saturday being that it is going to be in the 60s which is a first for this season here in MI.

Thanks everyone!

This would indicate to me that one of the two battery cables is not making a very good connection. You would still get full measured voltage, but the battery would have a hard time delivering the current needed by the starter.
Make sure that both battery cables are tightened down right. Make sure the terminal is not corroded. Make double-sure that the insides of the cables are not corroded.
Measure the resistance of the positive battery cable. Anything more than one Ohm = no good.
Measure the resistance from the negative cable to the engine block. Anything more than one Ohm = trouble.

That's where I'd start.

Thanks! Just did that. I took a wire brush to both the terminal and the connector on both the neg and pos leads. After getting done with that I hit the start button and now I am getting a "click" from the relay. I check the Ohm's for both the pos and neg and getting .3 for both of them.. Well this is a step now that I am getting a click from the relay...lol

Maybe this helps? Try and bridge the relay with a screwdriver or a big piece of wire and if turns over your battery has good charge, if not maybe your relay is bad.

I would check to make sure the battery is at full charge. I had the same issue 2 days ago. My relay would spark and I could run a bilge pump but didn't have enough juice to crank the ski. I didn't have a voltage meter so I just went and bought a new battery and it cranked right up.

I might have to just do that. I am not sure how old this battery is because it came with the ski. It was sitting in the garage unhooked over winter so maybe that killed it. I did charge is up and it is sitting over 12v now with the volt meter but maybe a new one?

My battery tender told me I had a full charge on my crappy battery too. I would start there before tearing everything else down.

Just did a test.. I touched the starter side of the relay with the volt meter and hit the switch. It is only getting 6.5v

Go back to my first post then. Measure out your cables. (battery to ebox, ebox to starter, starter back to battery or ground)
One of them is bad
Reason: you're losing voltage somewhere if you got 12V at the battery

I just tested the battery side of the relay also and when I hit the button it also drops down to 6v. I am pretty sure it is the battery. I am guessing just like how a car battery as cranking amps so do these. I am going to get a new battery and see what happens. I will also go through all the cables and make sure everything is correct like you said.

Again thank you guys for all your help trying to figure this out. It is very much appreciated that you take time out of your lives to help other people. Karma points for you all!

I will swap out the battery and go through the cables and let you all know how it goes.

THANKS AGAIN!!

Measure voltage directly across the battery terminals as you push the start button.

cool good luck. I didn't think about the cables themselves being bad. Something to look into for sure. I ordered a new set from JSS and I am very happy with them. http://www.jetskisolutions.com/p85_yamaha_superjet_cables_set_of_three.html
