Did I make a mess with this hood ?

While I was waiting for my resin to dry I glanced over at my spare hood and almost empty containers of foam.

"hmm,......why knot ?"

I taped the inside of the hood with masking tape and poured the foam in.
My idea is that I will be able to
shape the foam into a mold for my liner,
lay up a layer of glass,
pop out the glass,
scoop out the foam,
replace glass and add a second layer.

Will this work or did I just ruin a hood and a bunch of foam ?

Be gentle on me, I'm a Polak.:Banane01:

The foam will be scrap.

I want to form it in the shape of the air cavity in the hood and glass over it.

Once I get a layer of glass in the shape I want, I will pop the glass out and remove the foam with a wire wheel on a drill.

your foams probably gonna stick to the masking tape, should of used duct tape, seems nothing sticks to that silver surface. an easier way to do this is just cut up some cardboard and lay it in. tape over, glass, remove everything. prep it and glue it back in.

Man, you were at the stage where all you needed is to make your hand hold buckets and buy the $5 flourescent light plastic cover piece fro Home Depot, cut it to fit and glass over it all and cut some holes in the back.

I guess you can do it that way, but just seems like a lot more headache IMO.:frown:
At least you put down the tape so you could get it out pretty easily!:arms:

My problem is that I don't have a garage and have to work on the ski at our warehouse which is about 20 minutes from home.

Sitting and waiting for resin to dry plays with your mind so I dun did this.

I know I just made a shait of extra work for my self, I only hope the hood isn't ruined.

P.S. I had the buckets already made.

The tape should allow the foam to pop out quite easily, I wouldent be too worried.

nice work on the footholds boris.

let us know how your hood project works out. :cool2:

Thank you Mr saki.

I did like you suggested and moved the holds as far forward as I could. Had to lift them up to clear the exhaust tube but I can level everything out with padding.

As for the hood, I'm sure I'll let out more than one cuss word followed by a swift kick in the but for giving my self the extra work but I ran out of BB's for my gun and had nothing to shoot.
Next time I'll make sure I have enough BB's to last a full day.

demolition X, sorry to hear that.
I got mine right away, took me for ever to find out how and who I should pay for them. After several attempts I just sent a check.

I have no experience with any other footholds (these are my first) so I can't compare but I do like them.
I will have to add some padding around the ankle reliefs but they should work out nice.

wow. talk about re-inventing the wheel!

you should be able to accomplish what youre trying to do, though. i think its going to be a lot more work than laying a piece of plexi in there then glassing over it.

once its shaped, lay the glass, wait for the resin to dry, hide any other foam containers that might be laying around, pop out the part and grind down the foam. its going to be a messy day for sure.

looks like you're a natural with that fiberglass.. :cool2:

You think ??:cool2:

If you only knew how many times I glassed the whole thing in only to sand it back down and start again.
So far I have 4 weekends in these darn things (mind you I was on call and got distracted on a regular basis) and there's still turfing to be done.

I got 2 sheets of turf, I just hope I don't run out.
