Super Jet My First Freestyle SN SJ Build

Ok, after a while of searching i finally found a SN Superjet hull close to me with a title, for a good price ($100 :arms Extras it has are footholds, new turf, came with tank, engine mounts, midshaft, handpole and all steering.

To start off, this is my first standup ever! So im going to need a lot of help so i can build it right the first time because im really wanting to get into freestyle. Also, this is going to be a ssllooww build because im a poor college kid and primarily only have late nights, and weekends to work on it because of loads of homework.

Any advice on what to start with and what mods are some of the necessities to start into freestyle.
As of now my plans are 1st thing to just get it running! Im going to drop a 701 in it, going to need a pump assembly, as well as lots of other parts maybe umi steering and either a RN pole or aluminum one if i can find one cheap

If anyone has a good amount of parts that ill need, at a good price send me a pm. And lastly, pictures of what it looks like with me doing no cleaning or anything keep in mind.

Firstly, WELCOME to the X. Secondly, Congratz on the steal, I am jealous. Nice looking SN for $100 w/ title. Everything else is a major bonus.

I am in the process of doing my own "broke college SN build". Looks you got quite a head start on me though, I plan on doing my footholds this weekend.

Not the most best person for advice, but I can say go for the RN pole. You can hack it down to adjust the length to suit your riding style, and you will be saving some weight. You will get tons of better advice from some of the experts on here. Good Luck, I will be checking this daily.

What a steal of a deal you got. I have been looking for a project just like this myself.

Check to see if the foam is dry, if not step one is to re-foam that mother. Reinforce and fill the bondline, including in the rear if you re-foam. If you are flat water mostly or only stick a scupper in too. Mod your hood so it keeps water out better, squares are really bad about that. There are threads on all of this so do a search if you need specifics. PM the local parts pimp, jetmaniac, for what you need. I am not positive but that 650 midshaft might not work with a 701.

Dustin Mustangs-Thanks for the input to, i really was hoping not to re-foam just because the previous owner just installed the new turf but i might end up doing it while its a mostly bare hull. Also, He did have a 701 in it that he took out so maybe its a 701 midshaft? Im not sure he just told me itd be ready to drop the 701 in it. Ill definately do the hood mod though and scupper most likely too

Ill be going out of town today, then sunday begins striping it down and removing the graphics to get a clean base to work with

44lbs? I know I cut off around 5lbs switching from the stock pole to the RN pole.... Maybe 15lbs of wet foam....

Cutting 44lbs would be buying a carbon hull .

it looks like you need a motor, electronics, exhaust and pump. buy cheap parts from reputable people and ride it! turn it into a freestyle machine after it's running. you can pick up a 61x/61x 701 motor for cheap. A stock exhaust can be found for a little more than the cost of shipping. If you can't find a SJ pump for cheap you might be able to find one out of a 650/701 sit down and have the drive shaft cut down buy Jetmaniac.



My advice is get it running and ride it ASAP. Stock parts work and are cheap.

Wavedemon- Yeah thats my main priority right now, i definately want it to be running by when it gets warm so its not a wasted summer. Im on the search for a 701 already, hopefully itll all come together good

It would be a shame to rip up that turf right now for a defoam. Might as well put at least one season onto it.

if its a 94 or 95 hull then it came stock with a 701. so it might have the midshaft in it.

Its a 90' hull so it came with a 650, but the previous owner did run it with a 701 engine in it he said, is there a way of telling what engine the midshaft is actually for? or if it even matters

the mid shaft style has to match the hull not the motor. Keep your 1990 midshaft in there, It'll work fine with a 701.

The midshaft will work with 650 or 701. I put a 701 in my brothers 650, it bolted right in.

update-Got the stock graphics almost all removed, I never thought much of it when i read other people saying how hard they are to remove, but they suck! Goo-Gone does help a lot, Id still be working on them if i didnt have it lol

Also just made a payment for a 701! Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up next weekend

Thanks! 61x... I think I have found a buyer for my seadoo on Feb. 11th when his taxes come in, he said he was for sure on it. So if I do get it sold, the build will go a looot faster because of money haha

Couple update pics, nothing big
1st Pic: This is the crack/chunk taken out of the underside of my nose. It looks worse in the picture but I want to fix it now before it breaks worse, what should I do for it? just glass it or use carbon? I've never done either so any tips would be great! and where to buy the stuff also?

2nd Pic: This is the underside, Again the picture makes it look worse. After everything else gets done I'm going to paint it, so should i just sand it down, then paint? or some kind of fiberglass filler possibly? Im really not sure what's needed or if its just find how it is

3rd Pic: just what it looks like currently. Going to finish getting the rest of the residue off from the stickers then clean the inside and probably paint the engine bay. Is there a certain type of paint to use for that? I just want to do something quick and easy for that, it doesn't have to look the best

For painting the engine compartment, most people recommend Interlux. I looked into doing it on my SN, but decided I am going to go more performance over cosmetics.

For the nose, if you were going to reinforce it I would use fiberglass over carbon for saving money. Especially since you have never done it before, I would learn on fiberglass first.

As for the underside, someone else will have to chime in.

wow that stuffs expensive, Im not going to do it if Itll cost a whole lot, I was hopeing i could just use some cheap hightemp roll on or spray paint lol

Is there a certain type of fiberglass to use? I saw people saying uscomposites is the best source, but theres tons of choices for cloth, and resin? I was considering using it to doing a nose mod on it to, shaving off the gas cap, and making a smooth transition to the front, but im probably getting to ahead of myself

Also any input on scupper vs. bilge pump vs just drain holes? If I get the seadoo sold im going to rip out the turf and defoam so i can do it right the first time and not regret not doing it.

Some guys will tell you how bad scuppers are, but I have had one for 10yrs and love them. Never have to replace another bilge switch again. Some scuppers do leak more than others. My current XFT has been great.

US composites or Fiberglast are good sources for fiberglass mat. You can use a 12oz or 17oz for structural support assuming you don't have a not of sharp angles. A thinner cloth would be better for that. I use west systems epoxy and have had great luck with it.

aright thanks alot, Im probably going to do the home depot scupper build, its cheap and seems like its effective for people. What would be the best all around fiberglass cloth and resin for fixing that nose? Also ill most likely be doing the hood mod, and possibly reinforce the sides of the engine bay??? how much would i need to do all of that? input?
