Other How do water boxes work??

As most of you know I have a very obnoxious water box in my front exhaust superjet. And after hearing your opinions and my family and friends that watch me ride, I realized i need a new waterbox. But instead of buying a new one I wanted to make one. Most likely out of carbon fiber. But instead of cutting one of my good water boxes in half I was wondering if you guys could fill me in on what needs to be inside of a water box in order for it to work? I was going for the X Scream water box look that is more box like but out of carbon so its light weight, dent resistant, and has killer looks. Let me know.

What waterbox are your currently running? The quickest easiest solution is to just use the rear exhaust instead of the front/side exhaust. However, in regards to your original question, every waterbox is slightly different. Some use baffles, some are completely open with strategically places inlet and exit tubes, and some use water injection. The bottom line is the water helps muffle the sound but the trick is to ensure that the waterbox doesn't fill up with water at low rpms and restrict the engine when you pull the throttle or allow water to drain into the engine when you shut the engine off.

I am running a stock half gutted waterbox, and would a carbon version of the x scream one. I will try just the box with no baffles and see how that goes.

I am not sure there is much point in doing that. Do a search, there are some pictures floating around (one i saw just recently) of ones cut open. None of them that I have seen are just empty, there is always at least something going on in there to bounce the sound waves around.

Just for the sake of knowing, how do you alter a stock rn sj box to allow more flow and a slight increase in noise with out getting tooooo loud?

I run a mystery box. It's turquoise and round. I have no idea about it's origins. I had to shim it up with pads to get the exhaust hose to clear the tank. Not mush louder than a stock SN one.

I run a stock water box.

Some X2 guys modify stock boxes by drilling more holes in the baffle plates. (a longer than normal drill bit is needed).
I don't know how or if this would work with a stock sj box.

Just a thought.
