SX/SXi/SXi Pro sxi stock hood modding?

i have two hoods for my sxi, and wanna cut one apart and lighten, i think i have a good idea of what im getting into, but if anyone has advice, bring it on, please!

What are you trying to accomplish here? lowering it?

Start by digging out the liner.
No matter what you do to that hood, you'll be way ahead. Them things are heavy suckers.

i dont really want to lower it, but it feels like about 20 lbs- and my 440s hood feels like about 10, so im going to begin cutting tonight, will post pics when i have some progress

Make sure to weigh that hood before and after you rip out the liner.

just taking the liner out makes a big difference on those hoods. easy,quick mod to shave weight if you are just racing around. i took mine and sliced it up, made the mods i wanted, and now im making a mold so i can make it out of carbon to get the weight i desire. alot of work for a hood but worth it to me.

nice, what are you using to make the mold? and how much do you think it will cost when all said and done?

not sure on total cost yet, depends on how much carbon i end up using. as far as the mold is concerned, i'm using regular glass and epoxy resin. costs on the mold will be low for me cause i already have 2 250lb rolls of glass sitting in my shop. ill try and get some pics of the hood up if you like.

nice, i ripped that liner out, and i was seriously disappointed. i took out 2bout 2.5 lbs of foam and liner, but with the new glass going in, its a wash, but im also doing handholds, so maybe its worth it. man i want a carbon hood tho

LOL! thats why i went the way i did. its about the only way to shave weight on those heavy a$$ hoods. plus ill have a nice custom hood built to my own specs.

lol when i find the time to finish (hopefully here soon!) then yes i would be interested in making them to sell.
