I bought one. we'll see how it works.

My first impresions:

-It's taller, but narrower than the old v500

-The "grate" has a nice flat spot the size of a quarter right under the impeller for glueing it to the hull. Also, since the "grate" has an inner and outer portion, you can trim out part of the outer part to fit against flat vertical surfaces w/o exposing the impeller.

-Motor/impeller housing looks like it would be harder to ingest debris that gets past the "grate"

-because it separates into 3 sections, you can more easily adjust where the wires and plumbing run in relation to it's mounting.

Yeah, it's $5 more, but I think thats a negligable expense. chalk it up to inflation.

I dont know about the SJ... but I have enough room for 4 of them between the engine bed and the stock bilge on my 750 SXI
They are about 2mm too tall to sit directly under the midshaft. you could mod them to fit if you were so inclined though.

well i bought a T800 thinking it would only be slightly bigger. I was wrong. It doesnt fit under the shaft. looks like im going to have to modify it unless someone wants to trade a T500 for a T800? :fingersx:

I cut a little bit of the coupler cover off though so it sits flush. I believe mine sits between the couplers and midshaft. Clearance is tight so getting the right fitment is critical.

Its a '91 SN hull, so maybe its slightly different? If i could carve into the hull to widen the flat spot in the center, there'd be enough room beside the shaft for it. Would that be a terrible idea? (i.e. grind some out with a dremel)
