Title says all.I need to get new o-rings for my pro-tec yam. 701 head.I just found out that if you want pro-tec to send them to Canada, you have to fill out some sort of credit application/approval.Can anyone tell me who you deal with for these? Thanks!

I have never mailed anything to canada so is there anything special that has to be done or just slap a 39 cent stamp on it and mail it?

I have a shop down near me that stocks viton (sp) O-rings which I have been using for years on my C-3 protec girdled head. I think I have some spares in my tool box or could pick some up and mail them to you. just the dome rings not the real long water jacket one. They are only like a buck a piece. If you dont need them asap I could probably help ya.

It's not a c-3 head, though,it's a rec. head.I believe it takes the larger thickness o-ring(according to pro-tec's cat.)The head has no o-rings around the cooling jackets. This is new to me so I appreciate any help!

Subdude,

Check in your local phone book, or the nearest big city's phonebook, for an industrial supply house that sells and repairs Hydraulics.

You can take an old o-ring to them to match up the size.

You MUST get VITON o-rings . . . the standard BUNA one's won't handle the heat. The VITON one's are usually a Buff color and the BUNA's are black.

However . . .there are some Black VITON ones though, If they give you Black ones and tell you they are VITON . . . . . . I know this sounds crazy . . . . . taste them.

That's right . . . taste them ! The BUNA ones taste like black rubber automotive fuel line and the VITON ones have almost no taste at all.

They are WAY cheaper to buy this way than from Pro-Tec. Get a half dozen or so and keep them on hand.

Repost from the "MRD o-rings" thread . . . . .

I measured three 701 heads:
ProTec
MRD
Riva

Appears they all use the same size o-rings to seal the chambers . . . .

3.500 i.d x 3.687 o.d. x .094 cross section

That's : 3 1/2" i.d. x 3 11/16" o.d. with a 3/32" cross section

Groove width is .125 to allow for "crush" when torqued."

Hope this is helpful . . . . . . .

I think thats a compairison of the protec ck-3.he needs ones for the rec head. The rec heads had a small and a large o ring. If you look at protecs catalog it also shows a small and large. I have held both rec heads side by side. Mine takes the small and my buddy has one with the large. Other than the o'rings there wasnt any difference. They will not interchange. I guess it depends on when it was made.

Good point, he better double check his sizes for his specific head . . .

Just for reference:

The Pro-Tec head I measured is a older 1 piece "cast" head . . . . . .

The Riva is an early replaceable dome head . . . . . .

The MRD is a billet "slab" style head . . . . . .

Have to say thanks for the info-I used a digital caliper to measure my head(the one for the ski, that is) and the sizes came out to be exactly what 'crockett had posted. The trade size/number is -153.
Thanks to all!
