Ok, I could be way off with this idea, but I wanted to throw it out there and see what ya'll thought.

A lot of people are concerned with the size of the pump shoe on the FX vs the SJ pump right?

Would it be completely out of control to graft in the entire intake/ pump section of the hull???
I've never looked at the two side by side, so this is where i'm not sure of this idea.
But it seems that if you could effectively graft the hull section it would yeild the greatest performance.
I imagine that the other arguement will be the structural integrity of the graft.

Anyway, I was thinking about this last night and came up with this brilliant plan.

Thoughts?

I believe TOM21 has something he is cooking up for a solution ... :shhh:

there is a problem using the sj pump tunnel and all..where the intake grate studs are it hits the bulk head, i was going to notch a little bit out but decided against it, it was just easier to have a driveshaft made to the legnth you need especially for the fx you can just cut down a stock sj driveshaft pm jetmaniac he has the hook ups for all of that, i have heard of tom21 cooking a while ago.. he must still have it in the crockpot

Are the pumps in couches any bigger? Just thinking if i'm going to go through the headache of swaping pumps, get a big one. I wasn't sure if couches had a 150 or bigger that would make it worth it? If I could find a totaled couch (not hard) and do this same thing, replacing the tunnel etc it would be intresting.

Just a thought, it may be a dumb idea.

I just rode my new ski tonight (Factory Pipe, MSD & GroupK Hammer Kit) and its defintely got me thinking about doing the pump swap, but its a very daunting conversion. I have very little experience doing anything more than basic hull repair.

I have to admit I dont completely understand what a "Magnum" pump is. I did see a conversion part on Blowsion that turns your 144 into a Magnum. I've read that they have the same conversion for the 140 Kawi as well, but i'm not sure where to get it.

There is no conversion piece that turns a regular pump into a magnum pump. Don't be fooled by deceptive advertising.
A magnum pump is Skat Trak's brand name for their line of aftermarket pumps. They are expensive and well worth the money.

You are getting way ahead of your situation worrying about getting a Mag pump. First the entire pump inlet and mounting must be correct for whatever is going to be used. Thats where all the work is. You may not get much benefit from a Mag pump in clear water. You will get no benefit from a Mag pump if the load is too high.

I see this thrown around a lot for some reason. When I switched to a mag pump, the gains were everywhere. Clear water, rough water, surf. Much improved hookup, acceleration, and top speed.

Your mag pump/impeller has less load than what it replaced if you got a noticeable increase in thrust.

there are a few ways to get a 144 pump in a FX1. Plenty of threads on it too. None are easy but if you are set on an FX1 as your boat of choice then it is worth doing.
IMO its cheaper and easier to buy a RN hull but some peeps just dig the skinny little FX1. Tricky has put mags in the FX1's and they ripped but they sit a the house while he rides the SJ's and others. He may sell you a hull with the mod already done and that may be a cheaper route as well.

Intrestingly enough, a hull just popped up about 3 hours south of here... It might be my lucky day if we can strike a deal.

Here are a few pics of our sj pump/ scoop in the fx. The tray will be big too. The foot holds are agaist the outter side of the hull and the outter side has been moved flush with the rest of the hull too

Thats pretty slick. I really dig what ya'll have done there. Are you bonding the two pieces together with any sort of adhesive or are you just using expoxy resin and glass?
