Total loss issues again
Had some ignition issues today. The MSD dual channel total loss is acting funny. It will just die for no reason after running anywhere from 1 second to a couple of minutes. Then it won't start because of what seems like a lack of spark. If I turn the on/off switch for it off and back on again it will immediately start. The LED is blinking. The only thing I can figure is a bad ground or connection somewhere or maybe a bad pickup?

The ski wouldn't start at all at the beginning of the day except for a short burst then immediately stopping. Then it suddenly started working with the above symptoms. It's weird because I didn't disconnect anything except for the on off switch and the start stop switch when I switched it from one hull to the other. They are all connected with bullet connectors.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

When the led blinks, it usually means the battery is too low. Also, I would say that you may have a bad ground .
I always ran two heavy gauge ground cables to make sure.

I had the EXACT same issue 3 weeks ago, looked at the fuse and it APPEARED fine-changed the fuse and fixed the problem!

same here but I believe it was due to the fuse being about 2 years old it had worn loose in the fuse holder from vibration. Squeesed holders down and change fues and fine.

New fuse. New connections for everything. New ground wires. Still doing it. LED is blinking once per second which is supposed to mean a pickup/input problem. I'm checking that out next. Irritating since it worked fine all summer and all I did was unbolt it and move it to a new hull. Always something.

Shane check all the connectors, I had that happen with my LPW ski once.... It looked fine, but it wasn't I had to change that plug/harness. Make sure all the pins, etc are okay. Unless the magnet came lose from the FW you would have one cylinder firing without any issue, I would assume your running MSD Digital Muilt channel unit.

It is a 1 season old multichannel. I didn't redo the weatherpak connectors that came with it. I guess those could possibly have failed somehow. I'll get it figured out tomorrow or later this week.

I had moved one of the coils on the mounting plate. Somehow I put the grounding wire on the wrong mounting screw on the coil. Checked out fine after I moved it back to the correct side. I'm boiling my flywheel as I type this. Riding tomorrow.

Each coil has two holes in it for mounting. One is supposed to be grounded and one is not even though they look the same.

wouldnt have guessed that would have made a diff, the coil looks the same on the back side, does it matter if they are bolted together?

Mine is bolted to plexiglass so no current passes between the bolts. It did make a difference. Works great when wired up as shown in the diagram. Go figure.

It might be a single single pole coil thing. I know I've hooked up my double pole coil on my single channel total loss both ways and it worked the same.
