Yamaha Ignition Switch

Anyone ever figure out why yamaha switches mysteriously stop working? mine was working fine all the way until I did a motor swap last week, did nothing to the switch but disconnect and reconnect, never left the boat or the bars for that matter, as soon as I got the new motor in I pushed the button and it wouldnt crank. If I jump it on the box side switch wires it works every time, ive narrowed it down to it only works when not mounted to the bars. any ideas? would like to fix it asap if possible rather than spend $200 on a new one.

What section of the wire for reference, somewhere that is common to pinching?

this was right where it ran into the pole, this switch in particular came off my RN so something on the stock pole wore into the wires
