650/X-2 X2 Plugs etching on terminal black dust

Got a 1991 X2. 650: WC Head, WC Pipe, Factory Water box, Max Thrust intake w/integrated stuffers, SBN 44. Ski runs fantastic. After about 4 hours I get what feels like a stumble at wide open throttle. When I pull the plugs I find black power (carbon?) on the terminals. Color of the plugs look very nice. Tan / Brown. I replace and ski runs great again for another 4 hours or so.

Upon closer inspection, plug terminals look "etched" where plug wire attaches. My plug wires are not originals, but have some splits at the base of the boots and have zip ties to give a little extra holding power . . . so easy answer is "replace your wires" . . . I am wondering if anyone used dielectric grease on the terminals, or if this wouldn't help or is generally a bad idea.

Other option, I suppose, would be to cut the wires and put on some new boots.
