X2 fuel delivery issues . . . Take 2

I apologize to all who read this on PWCT but I though that I'd try it over here as well. I took the X2 out again on Friday night and it ran great. I rode it hard for a couple of hours and never had any problems at any speed, ideling out of the no wake zone or going WOT. I went out with a group again on Sat and it ran great then as well for most of the day that is. Towards the end of the day FreestylinFX1's wife was on the ski, it was going just fine. She stopped and the ski would not start. I tried it and it did fire a couple of time but would never really run. We loaded the ski and I tried to start it on the trailer and it fired right up, twice. Took the ski back to the ramp and put it in the water to see if it would start and run again and nothing. The same thing happened last weekend. We took the carb apart, a little dirty but not that bad. Changed the plugs and emptied the gas tank. Any other ideas? And why would it run so well for so long and then all of the sudden just die without warning?

I know the Kawi's switchs are better then the yama's but could it be the start/stop switch? I think it might be electrical. But I wasnt there to listen to how it stopped or ran on the trailer.

After turning it over, are the plugs wet or dry?

Do you have the water seperator tube running from the seperator up the bars? If you do it is likely the problem. It will fill up with water and contaminate the fuel. The water gets stuck in the fuel pump and stops fuel from going through. It takes some special torx bit with the thing in the middle to get the fuel pump totally apart on the stock Kehien. Ditch the entire fuel seperator if you still have it on there.

As always make sure the tank is holding pressure by blowing into the one way and then listening for a leak.

Kawi 650 electrics are a lot better than the 750 electrics so I am not that worried about them very much. I have never heard of any crazy 650 electrical defects other than the start or stop corroding inside which would lead to a no start or no stop situation.

Thanks for all the replies. I think that I have it nailed down to water in the fuel line. I just got home from school and my battery was fully charged. I hooked it up, choked it and braaaap it goes. I have done nothing else to it so far. As far as electrics go it turned over really well until the battery was toast. It even tried to fire a couple of times. The water seperator is the small container up by the nose isn't it? If so then I still have the seperation bowl.

The water seperator is the thing over the tank. THROW IT AS FAR AS YOU CAN! just make sure the one way vent is working properly. If it malfunctions it will vent out as well as in and fill the bilge with fuel vapors. A back fire could make a big boom if it was just right. A good boater always pops the hood to vent fumes before he starts a boat after it has been sitting very long anyway.

Water will do crazy things too. It might run fin on smooth water and then die as soon as you hit a wave. It might run on land and not in the water or any other weird combination of things.

So should I just throw a check valve where the sediment bowl is now? What is the purpose of that anyway? is it just a vent?
