Custom/Hybrid X Metal trim cable, only got one season now its shot?

Just wondered what kind of life you guys are getting out of X metal cables? I added new xm trim mid season last year. I rode yesterday noticed it felt tight, by the end of the ride it wouldn't pull at all, cable is coming apart at the nozzle. Is this common?

Need to make sure you protect it from any abrasions and obviously washing the ski well after rides help. But yes, they don't last very long.
