The thread inserts in the hull for my intake grate on my 90 x-2 have pulled out of the hull. Is there a known good fix for this issue?
The best way would be to go from the back side and put in a new insert, or something resembling one. That of course would require you to cut out your tray which would be undesirable.
We fixed my buddies ski from the outside...
Cut off the head of a bolt, about 50mm long, to make a stud.
Wax the bolt well.
Clean 2 nuts with acetone. You can also use a washer between the nuts if you like, biggest that will fit in the damaged hole.
Put nuts on stud, do NOT tighten together with a wrench. You should be able to hold them both by hand and remove the stud.
Fill the hull hole with thickened epoxy. A strong thickener would be best, so rather than microsperes, talc or cabosil, consider milled fibers or cotton flock.
Insert the stud, nut side first, into the hole.
Pack hole with thickened epoxy
Slide glass over the stud covering your hole with a layer or 3 or glass, probably 8-10oz cloth.
Let cure.
Remove stud.
Sand lightly.
Body work with epoxy mixed with talc.
Insert new bolt.
Of course you should have done basic stuff like prep the hull and hole with sanding, acetone, etc.
