id get a lawyer to make some paperwork to protect you incase they do something stupid.
Agreed.

I'm not going to do it. Too great a chance of him screwing something up royal and leaving me with the repair bill.

Besides, I premix.

I was just wondering what ya'lls thoughts are on what I should charge him...

I was speculating charging $500.

No way I'd want to deal with the insurance and liability nightmare that would occur if there was an accident.

But it's your stuff and I aint a lawyer. :)

With a deposit of more than the ski is worth I would. Once I got the ski back I would thoroughly inspect it before returning the cash.

I would look at them just like a stranger that wanted to rent it. Unless the rental value was for more than the price of the ski I would require a deposit for the difference all to be paid in advance. If you were going to rent it for 500 and it was a 1500$ ski I would tell him I would be glad to rent it for 500 but I will require 1500$ up front and will refund 1000$ when I check it out after the rental. Of course I would fudge the ski value on the high side to make it worthwhile to replace it if something were to happen.

That was 1 of my thoughts as well.

The down side is the legal ramifications if someone gets hurt. I don't think I'm ready for that.

I've seen how people treat other peoples skis. I don't think so. I have been asked a few times(family) then I start rattling off what it would cost if they broke it. Then they change their mind.
