I'm trying to replace rings on my Riva flat top pistons. I was under the assumption that Riva would sell replacement rings for their pistons, but cannot find them anywhere. I have been told that Riva's flat tops are made by Wiseco. I have searched Wiseco's website without much luck. I can find Wiseco flat top pistons in the correct bore (85.00mm) on Summit Racing's website and they offer replacement rings as well, but in multiple thicknesses.(???) I tried a simple search with the markings on the piston domes: 6178I. No luck with those numbers. Am I wrong to assume I could search and find the pistons and rings with those numbers? I'm going to call tomorrow, but thought I'd check with the local library that is the X.

thx zero. any idea why I can't locate the pistons with the inscribed numbers on the domes? Looking at the same type pistons that Flash-fx has for sale I can see two sets of numbers on his pistons. One number is scribed on the perimeter of the piston. The other number, along with piston diameter is scribed in the center. I searched using the only number I could see...ther perimeter. Maybe I didn't look hard enought or wipe away the cabon/oil mix, but the only number I saw in ther center was the pistion diameter.

Its probably a custom piston that Riva had Wiseco make, it would still have a stock number for Wisecos benefit only.

Not that there was any doubt, but you were correct on the ring needs. I appreciate the knowledge you and supertune have kicked my way recently. Hope to report back with some performance changes this weekend. You guys have any recommendations for Oring lubricant/grease for reinstallation on billet head 0rings and a good thread sealant. I used thread lock last time on my head bolts and it was a mistake. I was told to use "thread sealant" not thread lock next time.
You need to use the thinner Wiseco 3347TD ring kits for your 85mm Riva flat tops.

Yes those pistons were custom made to Riva's specifications by Wiseco and you won't find them anywhere else.

Riva use to have the replacement rings on their web site for around $40 with their own part number but you can purchase them a lot cheaper somewhere else if you use the Wiseco 3347TD part number.

The Riva pistons use the thinner 1.2mm TD-style rings because the piston top surface is completely flat which exerts more load on the piston surface and transfers heat faster to the cylinder wall. They also have a special thermal barrier coating on the top and bottom area which helps keep the heat away.

The R&D, Kawasaki and Japanese flat top pistons don't have this thermal coating and they use the thicker 1.5mm KD-style rings with a 7-degree half-keystone because piston crown has a slight dome which exerts more pressure in the ring land area.
