will i be happy with a 2013 SJ

whats up X- forum new here but have been around skis my hole life.

my sxr was stollen off of my trailer 2 years ago and haven't riden a standup since, also because of the three spine surgeries i just had.. I've only have my 2 seadoo HXs to ride and they are fun but they're no stand up.lol..

but my questions are..

is an 2013 or 2014 sj worth it for the price??
am i going to like it stock? going from an sxr800
what are some pros and cons on an sj
or should i go in a different

any input on on this will be appreciated

The 2013 in my thumbnail pic is mine. Worst 9K i have ever spent. Go ANY other route. IMO an older Sj is a great way to go. A buddy of mine just bought a cherry 2001 SJ for 3K. As for the new ones, either i got a lemon or their quality control blows these days. I didnt expect stress cracks covering the whole ski after a couple weeks of mild lake riding. And by mild i mean that i didnt even know how to do a sub when the cracks started appearing. I promised yamaha that since they were so rude, i would make it my mission to warn everyone i know about my experience. Like i said, i could be the exception..... It just sucks to spend 9k on something to have it immediately look worse than the same models from 15 years ago. Honestly for 9k, i would imagine you could come close to buying a used rickter fr-1 or 2 hull and build it using a stock 701. then again i wouldnt know because i never did it....instead i wasted my money on the superjunk i ride. Oh and if this talks you out of it, you should mention it to yamaha if you are in the mood

What kind of riding are you looking for? I have a modded 2013. It rips and corners on rails, but don't take it out to the surf to beat on it. Mine started to crack up on the side walls and hood also when i tried to roll it. I forgot i wasn't on my Rickter....I have road a couple sxr's over the years in comparison to those i felt my 2013 SJ was still far far more fun, alot less weight and mass to deal with. So for pleasure riding and jumping some small wakes, nothing too fancy you can't beat new. But Yamaha is killing their own sales by pricing them so high. Try to find a left over, there's a dealer here in MD that as a 13 left over.

I bought a left over 2011 in 2012 and I like it. I haven't had any of the stress problems you guys are talking about. Maybe they changed the way the did something in between those few years.

holy poop FPF after reading all that you got me thinking of staying far way

mostly on the lakes and rivers.. and twice a year a drive to florida to pick up and deliver cars. so might bring the SJ and not the hx.

as for buying the 13 leftover the dealer still wants 9400 and said he's not gonna drop the price.(he is smoking on something good). I found a 14 at this other dealer for 8700 out the door

im not really the average person when it comes to motor-sports i do have a super kicker and a full supercross track and snocross track and I'm going to give my self less then 3 months before i start trying to roll or wake flip on this ski..
