widening rails

just learn to work on the hood with out the wider rails and just hydro turf

it doesnt have to be like a sidewalk on the side of your ski

plus it may save weight
referring to the blowsion thingys

2 inches on the side is really all you need...if you want it widerer keep the stock rails on and turf them over

just learn the tricks then do the mods

I have a Blowsion set of them in my garage that I never installed. If you are interested shoot me a PM and I'll take a picture.

yeah... but I think I am going to be really bored and have a bad case of cabin fever this winter... I havent turfed my rails yet, so this would be the time to do it.... I would never be doing this if my rails where already turfed.

It may help me a little cuz I got boat feet... (13's) :-(

Just turf the top of the rail by the hood this is all you need IMO. If you want to sell the stock rub rails let me know I need to put some on my ski.

Yeah, I know it may not be that necessary... but I think I may do it anyways just for the heck of it... I know its not going to make that big of a difference.... just something to do...

its a necessary mod if youre into hood tricks.

i think the SJs look better w/ wider rails and turfed all the way around.

I just have probably a 2 foot section turfed on both sides and still utilized the stock rails. IMO wider rails are not necessary-I do not stand on my rails just use them to manipulate the ski in the direction I want it to go. Turf has NEVER given me a problem at all by doing it this way. Mark44 might have some pictures of it. At first I was hesitant because I thought it would look goofy but it looks fine and I don't have to worry about the turf coming up.

Double layer of turf? Seems kinda flimsy. What does the Blowsion kit consist of?

What about their precut rail turf? Is it worth the money or is everyone cutting up sheets?

Alrighty then!!!!

The main reason for extended rails on a SJ is for extra buoyancy.

Sure it can help for tricks like riding backward with your feet on the rails standing up, but that is about the only one I can think of, and you dont really need "extended" rails to do that trick, just one layer of turf for traction purposes IMO.

Its really a way to make a SJ more wider and stable like a wider ski(ie, Octane, SX-R, EME, etc.) but without all the extra composites and weight. Lenzi runs extra, extra wide rails. It almost looks silly if you didnt know WTF was going on. Its all about flatwater freestyle, not needed for surf or pretty much anything else. Of course unless you want to play bumper boats!!:icon16:

I believe Derrick Jr. about the ripped down 2x4 story. I can see someone doing this, then turfing over it. You could go about 1" thick, and it would bend with the shape of the ski.

The Blowsion hydro turfed rail kit consists of precut rail turf and the denser hydro turf black foam for underneath. I think it's about 1 1/2" wide. I bought it for my sxr and just decided to turf my rails.
