Where to ride in Far Northern California

Ok, so I live in Shasta County and know that I can ride on Lake Shasta but woudl like to have a few other places in mind.
The water is almost always dirty, its usually packed, and probably wont have huge wakes.

I browsed a few ski forums already for places to ride but couldnt find much.

Are ski's allowed along the humboldt/arcata coast? is it any good riding there?
Can we ride ski's on the Sac River and again any fun to do so? I know we have some rocks to beware of in the rive as well.

Only place I've rode up there is Lake McCloud. You'd be lucky to get a ski boat on a 3 day weekend. It's a cool lake for putting around. Has an arm you can go up a bit and see the one of Hearst's estates. Great camping on the East end of the lake. Very minimalistic.
