Maybe a little late but you should try just adding the vids that you have the rights to Google video or youtube.com.

Let them deal with the bandwidth issues and you can just link to them or embed them on your page.

Uploading 2gb of vids does not sound exciting, plus the quality drops. I've had a collection for 3+ years now and people around the world know where they are, I'd rather the, stay in one place instead of getting lost in the crowd.

Well, I was talking the one's that are getting hammered, not all of them. I would just keep uploading whatever are bandwidth hogs.

And, you can embed them into your pages or just link directly to the videos so people would still go to your site to go elsewhere.

Just a thought *shrug*.

that's the thing, it's ALL of the videos, 7000 requests in one day.

I've uploaded the ones I have the rights to I think. I haven't bothered with the others, just don't have the time or need to.

Well, if you don't have the rights, it's a no, and I've already done the ones I have the rights to. I guess you could ask slymo and jetskee for permission to upload their's.

Ahh, I thought there was only a few getting all the bandwidth.

Here's an idea: Coral Cache.

Its free, you only have to slightly modify your links and it distributes the bandwidth across a network of servers.

Check it out here:

http://www.coralcdn.org/

You would have to update each link but it may help (I know they use this a lot on links to prevent "slashdotting").

Switching over to .zip files did wonders, but I think it also hurt downloads overall. Maybe not though as it prevents people from streaming them straight from my site.

Check out the chart, can you tell where the bandwidth hogs started hitting me, where I took the videos off, and where I put them back up in .zip format? Fairly obvious huh?

lol...have to love leechers.

Its funny how usually the best solution is the easiest, smart idea.

I wonder, did you try Coral Cache? I know people use that for links that are about to be hammered after they are posted on big sites but wonder how it would work for videos. It would solve the streaming problem as well.

Although, if it ain't broke . . .
