okay, so 7am -3:30 pm today i was pulling my 550 engine so i could inspect my dual 38mm carbs. theyd been sitting for 6 months up right so i thought mabybe there gummed up. ( last time i experienced the same problem but it was fixed my a carb rebuild and FULL CLEAN.
today i just cleaned the pumps and cleaned the h and low jets and holes. poked the venturi with plastic hair. the needle and seat im still learning so i just took the needle out and sprayed carby cleaner at the gold nut thing then used air gun to clean it. i used carby clean along with the air compressor and cleaned all the above parts. i figured the low was fine so maybe its the high speed jet clogged.
So here where it gets intresting. So im just breaking it in still so im trolling around the boat ramp at 20-30% throttle, doing monos and then a few times id take it to 50%. and then it would just plateau at 50% like how its been doing so.
so im holding 50% and then the engine begins to rev up ! rmp increased and speed increased. it felt like it climbed to 70 maybe 80 % throttle, maybe higher but not wot, yes the throttle could and would be held at WOT but the engine is stuck at 70, 80% throttle.
whats happening here? i did change the high speed jets to a leaner mix just before. when i pulled the plugs. the front was CHOCOLATE. and the rear was white like new with small amounts of oil on silver shiny metal.
definitely a leaner mix so i put it back to around 1.8 -2 turns out.
so whats happening here with my ski.
why can i get the low speed but not the high speed.
i cleaned the jets and venturi, pump is spotless. i just didnt pull that gold nut inside. but i dont think i have too?
so why was my ski climbing? was it excess fuel being burnt or was it the rich, oily fouled plugs getting cleaned by just holding 50% throttle for a little longer and it was able to perform( hours earlier my dad said that maybe it was the spark. dirty plugs work down low but would not up top. i experienced the same thing with my 650sx but not after increase the spark gap to br8es-11.
