What to look at before buying new standup?

Hey,
I am wondering what I should check out before I buy an used ski. Compression and cracks in hulls is all I know, anything else, if there are more how to do it. How big are cracks that are really bad, like hairline or larger.

If your looking for new than the only thing i would make sure it didnt have is any seadoo stickers.:biggrin:
New you shouldnt have to worry about any of that when buying new. When buying a used ski i would just make sure the compression was good. If it is a salt water boat i wouldnt touch it if it was all corroded. Cracks, I would stay away from it unless you wanted a project.

If buying a used ski look at:

*Compression is a good indicator of overall condition
*Cracks in hull or previous repairs
*Look under the ski and see what condition the impeller is in
*How well was it maintained and how much does the current owner know about watercraft.............that is a biggie
*If you test ride it how smooth is it, how well does it idle and pull.
* what kind of power adders are on it if any.
*feel around the motor and see if you can find and leaks around the base gasket, exhaust ect. It will typically be wet and smell like gas.
*Pinch hoses and lines to see if they are flimsey (flimsey exhaust hose = bad) or hard (hard fuel line = bad)
*Is the steering tight and also look for frayed cables
*How good are the spark plug wires? OEM can often not seal properly or can stop gripping the plugs properly.
*Know what year the craft is and what parts are supposed to be on it. 61X motors and 6m6 motors look very similar so know how to diferentiate them if you are shopping for a early 90's squarenose.

Ummm that guy ^^^ covered it all.. That was a good write up that covered all the basics. I can't think of anything to add to that.

But about the watercraft knowledge......some people that know about the watercraft still shouldn't own a ski. There are some really stupid people out there. SO talk to the guy a bunch and make sure that he really knows what is up and isn't a real dumb a$$

If you just want stock then look at it very carefully, if your getting into freestyle then disregard everything and insure a clean title since you'll probably be replacing and rebuilding everything, that's when the really fun begins:Banane01:
