Super Jet What do you use to paint a ride plate and intake grate ?

I want to know what paint you used to paint your intake grate / ride plate .

I know the best thing would be to get them powder coated but I'm so low budget I don't want to do this.

I heard Krylon is a good and it will last. What Krylon paint to use ?
Also, I heard VHT engine Emanel will hold up good ! Any one tried it ?

Thanks !

I want to paint them red !

Im using Caterpillar Acrylic Paint on the bottom of my ski. Have not tested it yet but everything Cat makes is tough. Ill let you know how it works out.

i like the aluminum look myself. i just dilute muriatic acid down to 50/50 with water and spray it on my pump, intake grate and ride plate after each ride. rinse it off after just a few seconds and it will stay looking like new!

I think engine enamel would work good if you could figure out a way to "bake" it on there. Same goes for brake caliper paint. I used brake caliper paint on mine thinking it would hold up, but it keeps chipping off. I think I should have put the parts in the oven but then my wife would have killed me.

you can use about anything... as long as you prep it right... alum is tough to get a good durable paint job on... best place to start would be muriatic acid(as tzane stated).. followed by an etching primer then paint... done this way virtually anything "should" stick(durability might be another question)... better way would be powder... and i'd bet if you found a local powder coat shop, it wouldn't cost all that much to do it, and then you won't be starting a thread titled "paint won't hold up on ride plate" and end up spending more time and money to repaint it.... i don't ride salt so mine is bare alum...

and by the way... cat doesn't make paint, they just use it... i want to say it's produced by valspar(same company that makes "john deere" paint and house paint) haha

I rattle can em'. Krylon has the best spray paint to me. Clean off any old coating or paint. Wipe with acetone and a wax cloth. Prime paint and clear.

Ride plate and intake grate fit in an oven ! So I'll probably go with that ! I'm sure it will hold up good !

Should I use primer before painting it with the engine enamel ?

I wouldn't put your stuff in your personal oven.... Or if you do don't ever use it to cook again. I don't know if it actually causes problems with cooking afterwards, but have heard it does so I wouldn't chance it. Research it first.
