Weird carb issue?

Just picked up an FX1 today and even after it warms up it won't stay running(or stumbles and dies) if I don't keep the choke pulled out about 3/8 of an inch. What would cause this? Plus every time I wipe out and it turns on its side a bit, it croaks.

Correct, Captain Obvious , it's some sort of lean condition, but from what? Would something as simple as a dirty carb cause this? Partially clogged low speed jet maybe?

Possibly a piece of trash clogged up the fuel selector? The internal fuel filter in the carb possibly clogged.

Would adjusting the low speed screw help at all without messing other things?

Already did. Would the highs or lows affect this?

Pulling the chokes is causing a rich condition which the ski is liking. So go up on low speed. May also try larger N&S. Or smaller spring. Keep in mind that carb tuning is witch doctor poop, not my strong suit.

When you say up on low speed, do you mean change jet size, or back out low speed screw? (And I agree, Carbs are The Devil, Bobby! )

Yes to both. Try opening low speeds, if no change at 2 turns out, go up 2 sizes jets.

Put a clear line on the input side to make sure you are getting fuel. Check the pickups in the tank. Can you keep it running by dripping pre mix into the carb? Starter fluid is bad unless it has top end lubricant in it, and even then I don't like it. Get a spray bottle and use premix, then you can keep the flame arrester on it, so as to not lose body hair.

Unless someone just threw a carb on it to sell, why would you start muffing with the jetting? Make sure the jets are stock sizes (if ski is stock), and set the screws to stock settings. Make sure your pulse line is solid, and the you have clean fuel lines and pickups.
