weight of stock hull

I'm currious if i'm waterlogged..

i have a stock round nose SJ hull , striped clean with XMW bracket, and a stock pole and i still have the ebox on there, and other small objects like bilges, motor mounts...

just though it was a good time for a physical wile my moter is out.

Bare hull with nothing on it... 95 to 105 seems to be where most weigh, just recalling numbers that other people have posted.

my weighed in @ 110....with absolutly nothing on it.......foam was dry as a bone.

PS: The pump is out only the linking to the cupuler to the 1st half of the connecting rod

Doesn't soud like its wet. Drill a small hole and see if any water comes out. You can do it in the firewall or in the tray if your turf is off. When your done glass it up and use it as your inspection hole if you suspect its waterloged down the line.
Stock, bare hull should weigh 115-130. If your reinforced, or your pols is attached, with some other parts in there, I would say 155 is not wet. But there is only one way to find out. Get the drill!!:bigeyes:

i took my old roundnose apart today, comletely bare weighed in at 135. that is with it reenfprced and wet foam...

the reason i ask because there is a hole behind that Vforce sticker.. i pulled it and water dribbled out... and there was one on the other side...

quick question i'v see now people re-foam... how do you de-foam?
and is there any way by lettig the ski sit on its nose, ski being vertical leaned up agenst a wall, with the sun hitting it for a few days... will that get like %50 or so of the water out?

That foam realy holds the water, and from what I've seen with my own, it will not dry by it's self. The only way is defoam, take a screw driver and a shopvac and start ripping it out, takes some time, but not that bad

anyone know of a chemical that you can pore in, that eats away at the foam, making it all mushy? like gas and packing peanuts....

theres gotta be something that eats away at it...

You'll have to cut into the tray area to get at it... It's comonly done when people put in or replace footholds, scuppers and what not. Search the site and you'll find answers on where to start.

do a search, You should find some good ideas. from what I remember you can cut a hole in the back of the ski and put in a wire wheel attached to your drill and eat out all the wet foam, patch the hole and refoam.

Did you weigh the ski like you have it shown????? If so, between the Intermediate Shaft and housing, motormounts, cables, turf, bracket pole, you have probably about 40 or more pounds of extra weight to account for........... I would doubt that hull is waterlogged......... I have ridden it, it is light............. that ski never rested in the water, it was always pulled up on a stand when not being ridden.........also, it was also always dried off and out when he got home...................

yes it was weighed as shown. i was wondering how much all this extra weight in at...

when Donn refomed he coverd his hole with a fcking STICKER!!! and it started to pill, so i went ahead and pulled it and ther was a few dropes of water behing it.. on both sides...

i i'm thinking about a scuppler over the winter.. i'll just hold off till then..
think i have a few klotz stickers laying around here... lol

that hole, is in every SJ, when Don had his footholds installed, I doubt he refoamed from there, that would entail defoaming the entire ski......... they just foamed right where the footholds go.... Randy Richardson installed the footholds and turf..............

thanks for teh info.. i'll refoam it all when i check it out this winter when i'm installing the scupp.

so does everyone have those holes covered with stickers??? why did they not reglass from the factory? odd.

I am in the process of defoaming, and decided to get weights.

engine with exhaust and electrical - 96
battery/tray/gas tank with full tank of gas - 44
hull with hood/pole/everything else - 201

For a grand total of 341 in running condition

The tank weighed 29, so take 27 out for the gas, so 314 for the entire ski with wet foam.

I just weighed a stripped 01 yesterday. 101 pounds w/the pump shoe. A couple ounces of water came out with the exhaust tube but the foam is fine.

I've also stripped a 96 with NO stickers over the foam holes and it was fine. The foam had the common problem in the back where it'd shrunk and the glass had warped and even cracked but still no waterlog problem.

so you has the holes exposed? is the factory foam water resistent?
just curious if water doesent get into the foam through those holes... then how does it get in? footholds? i'm not shure if mine are just screwed in or if Donn glassed them over... Kahana you know the ski's history better than myself, happen to know? wish donn would answer my emails/phone calls...:sneaky:

Bondline. My foam is soaked at the bondline so far and I've only uncovered maybe 1/3 of it.

Grif, I am not sure if they used 5200 and screws or screws and glass........

you got to realize, those holes inside the engine compartment is not where your water gets in (Unless you sink your ski and leave it underwater)
