I recently purchased a 95 Waveblaster with a Riva red pipe on it. when I first rode it I noticed that the throttle response wasnt all there like on my superjet. I then broke into the carb and got the proper jets for the riva red pipe and it is still doing the same thing. if I go below half throttle and then go wot it feels like it goes through 2 stages of power, the first one lasting about 1-2 seconds. If i let it go down to idle and pin the throttle it will go into a bogged state and not clear itself out until i go below half and play with the throttle. Any ideas of what it could be?

Did you check pop-off and needle settings as well? How about the internal and external fuel filters?? How about the water seperator or check the tank itself for water??? It certainly sounds like a fuel issue to me and jets are only part of the story. Also make sure you are running a fresh set of plugs. If you just bought it, who knwos how old they are...

the plugs are new I just put them in. I couldnt get into the side of the carb with the fuel filter because I did not have my impact driver with me. I am going to check them out today. I did not mess with the actual needle settings because I do not know where they should be.

I took it all apart again and all of the filters were spotless so I checked the low speed needle and it was out 2 and a half turns. I has it set now to about 1 3/8 and its working a lot better but If I let it idle for a while now then try to go it just stalls out. Does that mean its too lean?

I just went through this with my SJ. A carb rebuild fixed things. The darned, icky, ecological waste known as gasohol ate my rubber and such.

Rebuild the carbs, fresh needles, etc. The diaphragm on the fuel pump takes the worst hit from the ethanol in the gas.

You don't know where the ski has been....the $200 or so (high estimate) for the carb rebuild (along with a pressure test of the bottom end) will answer most questions.
