Blaster Water routing - Thermostat

Hey X,

I am about to try the setup below on my blaster, at least thats my plan.
Just want to see if you guys have any input, positive or negative. I like the idea of fitting a thermostat to the system to control the temperature more dynamically.

What do you guys think?

It might be worth a try. I would think you would want the thermostat somewhere on the pipe water system though because the pipe temperature will have more of an affect on the tuning. Generally, you want to keep the motor as cool as possible and the pipe hot.

I suppose you are right about the exhaust needing to be hot. (performance wise) But i reckon that will be dealt with by the water scews on the headpipe? My main concern was to try and keep the temperature on the cylinders somewhat even at all times, to try and expand the life of the engine. I read somewhere that 125-135 degrees is optimal for a 2 stroke water cooled engine, and the thermostat "should" take care of that. But i guess we will se how it goes once i get it in the water. I will be keeping track of the water temperature with a probe when running.

Not sure if the thermostat would take care of that. It depends what type it is, this has been done before. If the thermostat doesnt have a hole in it and its not in the head it will not read 55C until the motor is much hotter.

I checked the thermostat, and it does seem to let some water through, even though it is "fully closed". So i guess it was desgined that way, seeing as there is no bypass on it. So im hoping it will work, and not overheat the engine before it opens. But i will have to do some testing for sure.

Saftey first, hook it up to the ski with a temp gauge in the head. Race temp stickers are fine. Tie it to trailer fire it up, have the thermostat discharge side open so you can see it. Run it and see what happens. :)
