Voltage regulator?

I bought a 61x motor and electrics that is only missing the voltage regulator. I found one on ebay that came off a 62T motor, will it work? What does the voltage regulator do anyway?(besides regulate the voltage)

Actually it is a rectifier / regulator and it's only purpose in life is to charge the battery. It connects to the green wires from the stator lighting coil, converts the AC into DC and feeds directly back into the +12v side of things. Simple and effective.

Are they interchangeable between 61x and 62T?

Yup, same part number for both models. I think it is the same for all years.

1994 SJ with 61x, regulator part# 6M6-81960-A0-00
2001 SJ with 62t, regulator part# 6M6-81960-A0-00
