Unknown sealant around my riva head domes

I'm cleaning up a RIVA head I just bought that had some sort of red sealant around the domes. Not a lot of it, but just a little where the domes seal up to the head. Is this something everyone does? Do I need to get some sort of sealant/liquid gasket to replace it? It looks like there is some sort of permanent gasket/ring that is built into the domes. Doesn't that seal it up OK without applying anything else?

That's an o-ring channel with a red silicone o-ring. You can use regular black (Buna) o-ring material. It comes in long lengths and is available at Riva, or McMaster. If the red stuff came off as one piece you can reuse it. If it broke in one or two places, use 1211 to join the two pieces together.

Yep, I bought just the viton compression o-rings from a local industrial seal house for a few cents a piece. I went ahead and got a pack of 10 because I will replace the compression rings several times before the others will ever need attention.

The red rings/gaskets seem OK so I think I'll just put it back together. The main O-rings are definitely OK.

Looked up the riva gasket kit for $14.99. I should have looked there first instead of posting this thread......SORRY!
