trailer bunks

So I stripped off my ancient rotten wooden bunks from my trailer, and I want to replace it with something that will have MUCH better life.
I'm looking for something fairly cheap, but good looking.
I have a feeling I'll end up using PVC, but that really has a Harrison, er I mean redneck look.

I was going to weld steel tubing, then carpet it, but that's too heavy.
I believe there is a problem with UV rays on plastic lumber, so that's out.

Any suggestions?
I think I've got about $20 to do this with.

i dont know about in small sections but we use a lot of it in the parks department i work in and it weighs a lot more than wood , so if weight is a concern I wouldnt go that way . but it does last a long time

if you want to save weight use aluminum tubing 1 3/4 tubing weighs nothing and if you carpet it it would look good too... just my .02

I thought about that too.
I'm juat a little concerned about price....and if I do tubing, I think I want to go 3".
I'll look into it though.

What is the difference between Trex decking and "plastic lumber?"
Unlike plastic lumber, which is typically 100% plastic, Trex decking is approximately 50% wood fiber and 50% plastic. Because of the wood content, Trex decking has the advantages of low thermal expansion/contraction, natural UV stability, good traction and paintability, and Trex decking is just as easy to work with as wood.
What sizes and lengths does Trex Wood-Polymer® lumber come in?
Trex Wood-Polymer lumber is available in popular lumber dimensions. Standard items include 1x6, 5/4x6, 2x2 (balusters), 2x4, 2x6 and 2x8. Standard lengths are 12', with 5/4x6, 2x4 and 2x6 available in 16' lengths. 5/4x6 and 2x6 are also available in 20' lengths. Special order profiles are also available and include 2x10, 3x6, and 4x6. See the Trex Sizes page for details on our other profiles.

Friend of mine took PVC and inserted a 2" x 2" inside of it to give it strength, then he heated the ends up and folded them down like a burrito............. just a though............

"just a though" - is that kinda like an incomplete thought?
I don't think I'm a fan of 'burrito bunks'.... interesting idea though!

It actually works and looks good, he did not actually fold under, more like heated up and flattend out.........

But it does look good............

Tricky used stainless tubes with PVC laid over them............. Imagin splitting a straw on one side...........

Good to see you posting again............

Bet you cant guess what project I am working on now..........

I've used plastic lumber for various projects (not Trex or the HD stuff, but 100% plastic lumber). One source is www.plasticlumber.com . It's pretty durable, comes in colors, and is lighter than the Trex or HD stuff.
