to quick connect or not to q.c.

Anyone with a TL using quick-connect/disconnects for the batt? I've only had my TL up and running about a month or so and I'm already tired of the disconnect process. I've got about 5 leads to each terminal. I've thought about consolidating them on one or two round eye leads for each terminal. I can't remember, Jetworks or JSS said they don't like them, but I'm not riding in surf and can't see why not to use them.
Second question...how do I get 'em hooked up. Plan is to run a fat guage wire from each batt post with the actual leads on those 2 wires and have the harness with all the ski wires remain in the boat. I can't figure where in the he** these wires will connect!! The batt terms are no prob. You plug your connectors in the fluted end (two barrels). The opposite end is where you lift up the latch/disconnect tab to release the leads. The underside shows 2 squares that look like they come out, but I can't get them out without tearing up the thing ($15.00).

I may end up going to 2 large, insulated bullet type conectors or something of that variety that allows me a quicker/easier access to the batt. Any suggestions are welcome.

Why are you disconnecting the battery so often? Do you remove it to charge it?

BTW I have a 1991 Toyota Epic. Just got it this summer. LOVE IT!.

Aaron

I'm pulling it to charge it. It has lasted me about 4-5 rides. I ride only about 30-60" at a time. The hassle of where my ski is located on a lift and being bent over to mess with is irritating. It could be mega simple with the quick disconnects.

BTW, I got my Epic last summer. Haven't used as much as I'd like, but it's been a nice boat.

I park it on a lift on my dock and would have to leave the charger set outside with an extension cord to charge it. I'd love to be able to charge it in the ski. I got those quick connects from Mcdog. I think he got them from Jetworks. They don't sell them on their website anymore, but he sold Mcdog a couple they had back in the shop. Call Art @ jetworks and see what's up.

I've got two more sets I'll sell for $25 shipped each. I've decided to just charge mine in the ski and chance it.

They seem to be the same as the Watcon ones but are gray instead of red.

I would imagine you blow past 50 amps every time you crank the ski? I got one of those small batteries that had 80 CCA and it wouldn't turn my starter fast enough to even fire the ski with a full charge.

Just put the charger in the tray under your cover so it won't get wet if it rains before you remember to disconnect it. Then add a 2x4 under the hood to allow moisture to get out and so you don't squash the wire.

Anybody know how best to install these? I'm open to all suggestions. I've got two sets.

if you read the mcmaster car link, it tells you the amperage ratings are based on the guage of wire the connector will fit, and basically nothing else.

DO what you want, spend your money where you want.

im saying those connectors rated at 50 amps, will crank your ski.

regardless of what you have ' blown past ' before.

think of it this way, a connector rated at 50 A continuous would likely do 200 amps for the 2 seconds you are holding the switch down.

LOOK at the connectors, the conducting lugs are LARGER than the starter cable that comes on your ski.

Time to resurrect an old thread for follow up.

Now that you guys have had some time with these quick connectors, how well did they stand up? Would you recommend them to others? Would you do it again?

The battery wire connections eventually failed on mine. It might of had something to do with my carrying my battery around by the cables or maybe the fact that I used junk stiff cables to make it. I think there is a market if it is done right. Maybe as an option with the cables you sell.

I had a customer request it so I ordered a couple sets to try out.

Did you crimp or solder the wires into the terminals? Would you do it that way again?

I am using the MSD quick connects on my setup, although I am not running total loss. Seems to work great, I ride %100 salt and have no issues yet. I used marine grade tinned cables and soldered the cables to the lugs. so far so good

I use the quick connects also but the 120 amp ones , my cables are the soft copper marine tinned and soldered , very flexible , after 3 years they failed just due to constant disconnecting after riding for the day ,I will continue using the plugs just as a safety feature ''' have you ever seen a ski starter crank all by itself with no one around ??'' I have !! it was just due to salt water intrusion into the circut somewhere . I would hate to see my garage or enclosed trailer up in flames because i was too lazy to disconnect the batt after a salty ride , anyways I always use a heavy coating of silicone grease on the connecter and they never give me a problem .
