Make absolutely sure that the brain box is sealed and the grommet into the stator/flywheel area is sealed.
Have a good battery.

This is my 1st TL set up Should I be concerned about riding in the surf?

YES.... I have seen and heard of issues w/ them in salt... No personal experience though.. My friend could not keep his working in the surf... (not sure why, but the brain kept dying)

Paul runs TL, so there must be a way to make em solid in the surf

Paul runs a older analog system so it pretty well sealed uses a stock electrical box with a brain out side the box.Killer set up hard to find.I on the other hand have a digital with everything exposed(coils relay etc.)

You don't really have anything exposed. Yeah, so the coils and relay are. Who cares...they're not the weak link in the TL chain.
Make sure the brain is sealed.

TL ignitions require that every wire joint is sealed very well and coils tested by using a squirt bottle filled with salt water and spraying the coils and all of the other connections, but with a very sano job and spraying down with Corrosion blocker, they work very well in the surf. It will need to be set up with a higher than normal rev limit and a retard curve to suit, but all in all MSD pro digital is the bomb, instant throttle response to hit them waves and KILL yourself!!

I have heard of people who run TL with great results. But it must be sealed up. The typical TL system will NOT cut it in the salt water. Waveblaster069 has a TL system on a blaster, and every time he brings it in the surf, it gets screwed up.

A good one.

Well I thought the same as you once did, that an Odysey was a good battery. The reason I'm asking is b/c it died- the last thing I want is a chitty battery with the total loss. I am actually thinking of going back to a wet battery- I'm just concerned about how many charge cycles it will handle. So I was wondering if there are any advantages to one battery vs. another.
Thanks,
Bri

Try the KB35XC battery from Jetworks. It looks sturdy and gets rave reviews from those that use/abuse it.
