Thoughts of first ride of 91 stock superjet

Rode my ski for a little bit Saturday before the nasty wind and thunderstorms came. First time riding a stock superjet. Only thing a/m is the mariner intake grate.

In comparing the ride to a 550, riding the 550 is like riding on a surfboard. U have a fairly wide (2') area on which to balance. Riding the superjet is like balancing on a tightrope. Too much balance on 1 side and the craft will want to roll way easier.
Dunno if this is caused by the ride plate being stock. Wayne and Boyd's didn't have that problem.

There seemed to be more low-end thrust then the 750sx, but less top speed. Cutting through chop was as easy as a hot knife through butter.

We both hate the finger throttle. I can't understand how you guys like them. That'll be switched out before the next riding season.

All in all, I'm quite happy with my latest acquisition. I consider the 650 superjet a better buy then the 750sx.

It's funny about the whole finger / thumb throttle thing. I can't bear to ride my friend's 750sx w/ the thumb throttle!

You probably already know about the common upgrade things, but on my '93 650SN a Coffman's pipe and a 180psi head made a huge difference. If it doesn't have an a/m prop that's a must too.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by 'common upgrade things'. I just got it and it's my first experience with Yamaha or stock skis.

no worries...I was just trying to say that a prop and pipe are some of the common upgrade things for any superjet. Also, by shaving the head (or getting an aftermarket one) that raises the compression to 180psi (requires 92-93 octane pump gas) you get a lot more low-end snap too. If you want even more low end, you can put in a wet wolf pump cone and/or bore the nozzle open a bit. It all depends on what you want to do w/ the ski. Have fun!
