Check Out my Sxi Pro!

So Last year I got on my first stand up, a 89' Kawasaki 440 and bought it on the spot. Two months later I needed to upgrade with not much cash on hand I decided to buy this 99' Sxi Pro. Since then I have done lots of work to it (as most sxi stories go).

This sxi already had many mods done to it when i bought it including:

Work Intake Grate and Ride Plate
R & D Timing Advance
Lightwight Jetinetics Flywheel
0 Degree Handle Bars
TDR Water Box
Skat-Trak Prop
Factory Pipe

Although the ski was modded with some quality aftermarket parts the workmanship was poor to say the lest. :aargh4: The flywheel ending up jumping time and shredded the wooddruff key. The water box wasn't mounted to anything and rubbed a whole through the hull. And pretty good cavitation out of the hole. After addressing all of these issues it has been a pretty good ski the first season I've owned it.

Since then I've done and couple mods of my own including:

Dawson Digger Footwells
Blowsion Hydro-Turf
Odi-Grips
Skat-Trak C-75 Swirl 9/17

Although it turned out pretty good it was a lot of work! I hope it all pays off next summer! Can't wait to Ride!!!

Be careful with that timing advance-- hold the throttle open for too long and you will likely melt a piston. The CDI's marked 3738 have more built in timing advance than some of the early kawi 750s. The fixed 6* advance the R&Ds add is too much on the top end for a pump gas motor with a sloppy factory squish band.

You will be absolutely fine with the timing advance plate and running WOT. My sxi pros and now my SARS ran the plate with no issues on pump gas. My SXRS also run the factory pipe plug with the plate and still, there are no issues. Ski looks good, have fun! I want an sxi pro again.

I have talked to more than a few people who have melted pistons running the fixed 6* advance with a BP CDI. I have also been told by many repudable engine builders that they should be left off these skis. Obviously some people have run them with success, but you better know what you are doing.

Making sure you have the right squish and or running a race gas blend will better your odds at not blowing up.

5 stock spec class skis here, all with timing advance plate and jumpers plugged in. 87 Octane all day. This year will be the tenth season on all of these skis, they are all 03's and 04's. They have been rebuilt do to water ingestion or just for the sake of freshening them up - never an issue from timing. Some of these motors have forgone the advance plate for a re-keyed flywheel for even greater advance with no issues, just bumped up to 89 or 91 octane. No race gas mixtures at all. Tight tolerances all around.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the input. I did decide to run a blend of race gas and 93. After the first tank of straight 93 I ran threw it, it started losing power after about 30 minutes of riding, and a little detonation. So after the 110/93 mixed gas and a re-tune, It has been awesome. Although the top end already has a season on it, I will probably need to do a piston kit soon. Also looking to cut the head for a little more compression, maybe pump stuffer, and nozzle bore, but I don't know how much more I want to put into a 750. AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! I want a freestyle ski!!!!!

I remember asking myself that same question a few years back, Im pretty happy I stuck with mine. I still have a soft spot for the sxi pro

An sxi setup for freestyle is pretty cool, its powerful, and fun to ride, and still rips on the top end. Its like having a freestyle and a race boat. BUT: ITS TOOO HEAVY!!!! I want to bf and roll!!!! AHAHHAHAHAHAAAAHHH!

Ive been getting pretty close to BRs on mine. I did a lot of weight saving things to it that helped but yea, its a tank still. Deff not going to pull off any flatwater flips on it lol. I ride with a few SXR guys that BR with way less power off boat waves so it keeps me trying.

I'm thinking of doing a chop next winter. 4"-6" off the front with an extreme rocker angle, and 3" in the back. Plus I'm gunna try and make a carbon fiber hood. Possibly cut out sides and make carbon tubbies/renforcement. But I still don't know if that will be enough or will I be just flushing more money. Just like your quote says, "My little money pit until I get fed up and buy an a/m. We need more exposure to get these prices dropping! More and more people are getting into manufacturing a/m so that will drive the price down. I got all my friends hooked. I have hope for this sport!

that's what my buddy and me are doing to ours hopefully.we have a doner hull to practice on but we feel the same way the freestyle hulls are so expensive but at the same time is it worth it to cut into our sxi's that are known for not being freestyle skis.all though we both love our skis fro the flatwater tricks we do, I don't think its impossible to back flip them.i've already got okay barrels down last year and that was my first season with the ski .nothing crazy done to motor either so they have potential, I believe in the kawis ! lol
