SURF FINS

Surf Fins for the Blaster could possibly be one of the most noticeable add on's ever to be built. These Surf Fins have been developed through a R&D programme by the 701 Test Pilots and are now available for every Blaster Freerider. The 701 Surf Fins are way more than just a fin that angles out from the gunnel rail. Once you fit the Surf Fin, you have actually lowered your bond line by 2 inches. With the Blaster having a high sides, the rear would have to sink in from a jump so much so it was hard to recover. Now with the Surf Fins attached, the bond line now lower, adds up to a massive difference. With the Fins added , this makes for a lot larger surface area to catch the water and slow the sinking of the rear. The added feature of the Fins being able to flex on landing, instantly increases the resistance as they flare out. Whether you jump, flip or roll, these Surf fins are the ultimate add on for instant recovery. http://www.701industries.com/surf fin attached.jpg

I don't see them on the website. How much?

Also because my blaster is rockered and chopped we always pick it up from the sides. I am guessing you cant pick the ski up from these?

Hi Will, yes you can still pick the ski up. The Surf Fins flex only to a certain point. These fins are a must ,especially on the carter rear chops. They are in the shop in the Blaster section and until the end of the month are shipped for Free. Check out this video of my Pilot testing them. This video is of the prototypes and the ones out now are even more advanced.

With other Fins being released for the stand up guys over the next couple of weeks, I have decided to change the name from Surf Fins to FLEX FINS. This name is more to what they do when surf riding. Got more videos being launched soon showing how they work .

Flex Fins explained. This drawing is similar to the napkin I doodle on at the xmas meeting of the 701 Aus test pilots. A alloy fin was first bolted to the bond rail of Luke Rotolones Blaster. After testing he cold tell there was a small improvement on recovering from a flip. Issue was the added pressure caused stress factures along the top of the bond line. My Pilots are the most knowledgeable Blaster riders I know and are so lucky to have them to help with the development of these parts.
It was determined at the meeting to try and lower the bond rail, as most modern skis bond rails are low. This we thought would make a difference on the Blaster as it has the highest bond rail of any surf ski. Then we talked about the fin and how big it should be and what angle it should be set at. With this sorted we produced a prototype fin that you can see in Lukes test video worked beyond expectations. From there we came up with the idea to make the fin able to flex to capture more water and create even more resistance. A added bonus was that all the pressure when landing is applied to the Flex hinge point and not transferred to the bond rail.
