So I have ran out of shims. Does anyone know if it truely matters to use OEM shims (outrageously expensive) for the engine or pump? Found some on MacMaster for much cheaper. Anyone have any problems using non-OEM ones or suggestions otherwise?

There used to be a universal shim kit that I used and maybe got from Hot Products or WPS and was much cheaper than the oem individuals. Not sure if they still sell them.

I use the ones from mcmaster carr. Doesn't matter if they're SS or aluminum. Aluminum may be weaker but when they've got the weight of the engine on them, they aren't going to compress anymore.

If anyone needs some hit me up with the sizes you need.

From parting out at least 20 yamahas I have built up a rather large collection.

Just recently started throwing them together but I guarantee I have 150 shims if I gathered them all up.

Oh..and a shim is a shim. Not going to matter what you use..as long as it will hold up. I have pulled some that had beer cans folded over a few times.
