Super Jet Superjet 650 cuts out with mid to high throttle. Anyone have tips/suggestions/ideas?

So I took my need the 1990 superjet I just bought out for the first time yesterday... I think everything is basically fine with it, but I had a little trouble and I need to get it figured out. It starts up right away and has no problem at low throttle, but at mid to high throttle it kinda chokes out and dies. Kinda stalls out. Anyone have any ideas what could be goin on?

It's basically a stock engine, Mikuni carb (not sure what model/size). I bought the superjet the night before and the compression was dead on at 162 in either cylinder that night when my buddy and I were checkin it over and we didn't notice it cutting out like this at high throttle while we were checkin it out either. I was also getting a lot of water in the engine compartment because I suck right now and havin it cut out on me like that made it even harder. But I don't think the water was causing this. If it was water getting into the engine it would stop running and not start up again. Right?

I think the guy I bought it from is pretty trustworthy and don't think he is tryin to pull a fast one on anybody. It seemed at first impression like maybe a carburetor issue (and it might be), but I got in touch with the guy I bought it from after the session and he said it sounded like a fuel issue. The last time he rode it (a couple weeks ago) it was fine, but after the ride he topped it with some fuel that might have been pretty old. He said it sounds like a fuel issue to him. He said I should drain the fuel out of the tank and that there is also a filter on the carburetor that might need to be cleaned.

Anyone have any ideas on what might be going on or does anyone have experience with a problem like this? Do you think it is a fuel quality problem? A carb adjustment problem? Something more serious?

Thanks for any help.
