I need some answers QUICKLY!!
ok so i just got this badass 91 superjet 650 with group k hammer kit, i took it out riding today and it was awesome, the guy told me that the bendix was going out, so i planed on replacing it, and expected it to go bad.... it did at the end of the day after riding for at least an hour. so i pulled the motor just a little while ago, and decided to do a leak down test while i had it out. i pumped it to 8psi, and heard a hiss, the pressure droped to abt 6.5-7 psi and then held, so i sprayed soap water all over, and i saw where it leaked, it was the rear crank seal, but once it hit abt 6.5 psi it didnt leak down any further..... soooo then i go to take off the flywheel cover, and once i get it off, the whole area is covered in a coat of rust. i almost expected it when i saw that there was sitting water in the front of the ski when i got it, but anyway, so i pulled the flywheel and the stator is covered in a layer of rust as well. so here are my questions:

1) is it ok that the rear seal leaked down 1psi then stopped and held for over 2min at abt 6.5psi?
2)if the ski ran so great today, the stator obviously isnt bad bc of the rust everywhere, so how can i clean it off with out damaging anything? i used brakeclean and parts blaster on the flywheel. im sure the rust is the culprate to why the bendix isnt working right...
3) should i take some light sandpaper or something to the magnets on the inside of the flywheel?

i did do a compression test when the bendix was kicking in, and both cylinders were at 175psi, so as long as the leak down is ok, i believe the rest of the motor is in sound condition.

I appreciate the help,
Chris

On one hand I would say leave it but you have the motor out and the seals are only around $35. So spray the stator adn flywheel off with brake clean and tear the bottom of the case off and throw some seals in there and your set for a few years. You done the hard part of removing the motor the seals are a simple task.

i just went through that with the 650sx i just sold, i really would prefer to just do it at the end of the season if i could. do you think that i can get away with that? i figure it is ok as long as it is holding 6.5-7psi for over 2min.... i tried brakeclean and it didnt get all of the rust off.... it got a nice amt, i used some pb on the cases to get it off too. what else can i use? and what abt the magnets on the flywheel? do i need to clean them up so they are shiny and make good contact with the stator? on a good note, the top end looks really really good.... so i guess thats some good news. but im also going to have to resplice wires and heat shrink them, the guy did a junk job wireing stuff. so im going to be busy tomarrow
