Suggestions on next ski.

I started stand-up riding this year in mid April. Have had a blast and learned a lot in a short time. I can do a few trick, like jumping wakes, jumping floating logs, a tail stand with turn (not sure what it’s called) etc. I’m riding a 86 JS550, mostly stock except a scoop grate, extended ride plate finger throttle, straight bars, the motor is stock. So what should I look for next as an upgrade? Or should I spend a few $$ on the old ski and keep at it for now? I can do all my on mods, repairs, so a fixer-upper would be fine. What should I start looking for?
Thinking under $1000.

I'm 49, about 200lbs, ride lakes.

Suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

if your modifyin your boat : hockey puck lifters. maybe a head new prop?

it all depends what your looking to do.

looking for a different ski?

an sj or a kawi 650 would be the next step. id go with the sj if you could find one. wait it out till winter and buy one then when the prices come down.

under $1000 pretty much leaves you with '90 - '93. they have the 650cc engine. its possible to find a '94 or '95 for under $1000, but not very probable. those have the 701 engine. all of those years ('90 - '95) are known as square noses. the '96 to present are round noses. typically, a bare round nose hull goes for about $1000.

even a 650 SJ would be a vast improvement on the 550. you could score a cheap 650SJ and slap a set of 701 cylinders on it later.

unlike the early kawis, yamis stuff is pretty much all interchangable between the 650, 701 and 760
